Singer Kim Jang Hoon, known as a donation angel, once again mentioned the past in-flight smoking incident himself and directly revealed the full story at the time. Although the incident was more than 10 years ago, he even self-deprecatingly called himself the "in-flight angel" in the past. Kim Jang Hoon bowed his head and expressed renewed remorse.
On the 7th, Kim Jang Hoon appeared on the YouTube channel "Song Seung-hwan's Wonderful Life" and candidly talked about the controversial in-flight smoking incident.
That day Kim Jang Hoon said, "I was curious whether the siren would go off if you really smoked on a plane," and "when I tried smoking, it really went off." He explained, however, that the behavior stemmed not from mere curiosity but from a panic state.
He recalled, "During the European tour, equipment problems and schedule disruptions overlapped, causing extreme stress," and "panic symptoms continued even on the return flight." He added that "even though I took medication several times, I couldn't calm down, so I acted impulsively," expressing deep regret and reflection about his actions at the time.
Kim Jang Hoon, who also recounted what happened afterward, recalled, "When the plane arrived, detectives were waiting at Incheon Airport," and "they told me to extend both hands so they could put on handcuffs, but they didn't put them on." He again bowed his head, saying, "No excuses, it was my fault."
Earlier, Kim Jang Hoon was accused of smoking in the airplane lavatory on Korean Air Lines flight KE902, which departed Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport bound for Incheon International Airport on Dec. 15, 2014. At the time, a warning light was activated by the smoking, the flight attendants confirmed it and stopped him, and he was handed over to the Incheon Airport police unit.
In the police investigation, Kim Jang Hoon said, "I smoked out of anxiety from stress and panic disorder caused by the cancellation of the performance." The prosecution, considering that it was his first offense and that he immediately apologized when restrained, decided not to refer the case to a formal trial but to proceed with a summary indictment, and the court imposed a fine.
After the incident, Kim Jang Hoon posted an apology on social media saying, "There is no excuse. I am unconditionally sorry," and "I will do my best to live with a sound mind." In the past on broadcasts he once wryly joked about the incident, saying, "I used to be called a donation angel, but these days I'm called the in-flight angel." Through this broadcast he mentioned the incident again and expressed repeated remorse.
