On SBS' Whenever Possible, Yoo Yeon-seok aims to restore honor to 'FC Gaebal' with barefoot soccer.
SBS variety show Whenever Possible (directed by Choi Bo-pil/writer Chae Jin-ah) is a 'niche attack' variety that gifts luck in the brief pockets of time encountered in daily life. Based on the last episode's broadcast, it recorded a peak rating of 5.4% and a 1.5% in the 2049 demographic, ranking first in its time slot for that demographic, and for 13 consecutive weeks it has held the top spot among Tuesday broadcasts and all drama, showing unrivaled power. (Nielsen Korea, metropolitan area basis) Today's (7) broadcast features the two MCs Yu Jae-seok and Yoo Yeon-seok joined by "niche friends" comedians Yang Se-hyung and Yang Se-chan, who stage a festival of rapid-fire laughter across the Gajwa-dong area.
Among them, Yoo Yeon-seok draws attention by announcing a challenge to become the 'soccer king.' So far, whenever a ball mission appeared for Yoo Yeon-seok he repeatedly made mistakes and thus acted as a member of the so-called 'FC Gaebal.' When a niche mission for a children's soccer team involved hitting cones with a soccer ball, the children's niche owner summoned 'Professor Yoo,' causing laughter by shouting "The power of Sejong University!" Surprised by the unexpected cheering, Yoo Yeon-seok added to the laughter by burning with unusual enthusiasm, saying, "(Se)jongdae hyung will show you!"
Yoo Yeon-seok even kicked off his shoes and began to show the full power of barefoot play. After a few practice attempts he struck the cones, expressing confidence by saying, "The barefoot feeling is good," and Yu Jae-seok cheered at Yoo Yeon-seok's changed footwork, shouting, "Yeon-sik, your chance has come!"
Meanwhile, Yang Se-hyung and Yang Se-chan raise interest by engaging in an intense mind game over the 'ace' spot. When Yang Se-chan captured attention from the start with flashy dribbling, Yang Se-hyung quickly drew attention with consecutive cone hits. At one point Yang Se-chan kept watching Yang Se-hyung's every move and, rejecting coaching, caused uproar by saying, "I can't trust hyung." As they even argued over the angle of the ball, Yu Jae-seok intervened, saying, "These brothers are fiercely competitive," making the children's niche owners burst out laughing.
On the other hand, on that day Yu Jae-seok could not hide a delighted smile during a day with his 'cherished juniors.' Yu Jae-seok even boasted about the chemistry between the new 'cherished junior' Yoo Yeon-seok and the Yang brothers, saying jokingly, "Come to think of it, Yoo Yeon-seok, Lee Kwangsoo and Lee Dongwook are from the same agency, aren't they? They're entertainers I raised. At this point the agency CEO should thank me," turning the set into a sea of laughter.
From Yoo Yeon-seok, who covets the title of 'barefoot soccer king,' to the Yang brothers, who wage a battle for 'soccer ace,' the fierce performances of Yu Jae-seok's "cherished juniors" will raise expectations for the full broadcast of Whenever Possible.
The Tuesday healing variety show Whenever Possible, which promises even more powerful, daily-close laughter bombs, airs every Tuesday at 9 p.m.
