Comedian Jung Sun-hee explained why she did not file a missing person report for her late husband, the late Ahn Jae-hwan.
Recently, content in which Jung Sun-hee spoke about the late Ahn Jae-hwan's death has regained attention on online communities. This is because the past situation has been reexamined after Jung Sun-hee appeared on KBS 2TV's Malja Show and other programs.
The video was released on Sept. 9, 2024, on the YouTube channel "Deureobolkka." Jung Sun-hee opened up, saying, "After getting married, I directly felt the weight of accepting another person's soul into my life," and "Even though there were difficulties afterward, and even though there were environmental differences, I thought those would not be insurmountable, but there were parts I didn't know about that I couldn't do anything about."
She continued, "He was experiencing extreme depression because of financial problems, and I didn't even know that financial issues were eating away at him more than anything else. I was so busy with work," and "But when I heard about the suicide exactly 10 months after we were married, it didn't feel real. My first reaction seemed to be denial of reality. 'No way. Is something like this happening to me?'"
Jung Sun-hee candidly mentioned why she did not file a missing person report for the late Ahn Jae-hwan at the time. Jung Sun-hee said, "Not filing a missing person report was something I thought would naturally happen. There were conflicts because money wasn't available, and I even wondered, 'Did he misunderstand that I refused to lend money even though I had it? Is he taking revenge on me for that?' It was childish, but I even had those thoughts."
Jung Sun-hee said, "Nevertheless, the reason I didn't report him missing for more than a week was the image damage a celebrity would suffer. This person was running a business at the time, so I thought, 'I have to hide him. If he comes back I'll not let it go. I'll scrape the barnacles off. I'll take out my anger.' I only had those light thoughts. I never imagined he would return in this condition."
Afterward, Jung Sun-hee suffered great emotional pain. Jung Sun-hee said, "The first was denial of reality, and the second was guilt. 'Is it because I did this? Is it because I said no? Is it because I didn't provide the money? Was it because I spoke coldly then?' A replay of every action of mine began. It was gut-wrenching."
She added, "And then there was the sense of loss that one day this person had disappeared," saying, "Ten months into a marriage is a time when couples are deeply in love. No matter how much they fight, the fundamental feeling of love usually prevails, so the longing and sadness became all tangled up, and while beating and cutting at those feelings, someone gradually looked for a target to nail to a cross, and that target ended up being me."
