Actor Kim Jaewon expressed his readiness to play Sunrook.
On the afternoon of the 7th at The Link Seoul hotel in Guro-gu, Seoul, a production presentation for the TVING original 'Yumi's Cells season 3' was held. Director Lee Sang-yeob and actors Kim Go-eun and Kim Jaewon attended the production presentation and talked.
"Yumi's Cells 3" is a cell-stimulating, empathetic romance in which Yumi (played by Kim Go-eun), now a star writer, once again laughs, cries and falls in love because of an unexpected person, Sunrook (played by Kim Jaewon), who appears like a bolt from the blue in her unstimulating daily life.
That day Kim Jaewon said of joining the ranks of "in-demand actors," "I am so grateful just to be called that. I'm just working hard enough that all I can say is thank you for seeing me favorably," and added, "Rather than being my strength, my biggest weapon is that I have the very lovable Go-eun nuna, so that might be my greatest asset. Filming season 3 together, we had fun filming without regrets. I trusted nuna and worked hard on set. I hope my Sunrook shows a lot of charm through this drama," he said.
Asked how he felt when he first received the offer to be cast as Sunrook, he opened up, "I thought 'it's done.' I'm very grateful. I thought this kind of luck would come to me too. Moreover, I thought it was a huge opportunity that I could portray a character like a younger-man unicorn that the original fans love. I was also very excited to work with the partners, the director and the staff."
Director Lee Sang-yeob said, "I prepared for the casting. I had seen him a few times in dramas. His career wasn't long, but he showed a variety of characters, so I was curious. When I actually met him, he gave a strong impression of being well-proportioned. I thought the original Sunrook in the source material wearing suits and angular glasses was similar. When we talked, he seemed nervous but tried to act skillfully without showing it. I thought that was similar to the Sunrook I had in mind."
When asked about his efforts to portray the character, Kim Jaewon explained, "The biggest features of Sunrook I felt while reading the script were that the hairstyle would be important and that the glasses were a focal point. It's not about fashion, but when he wears glasses at work he wants to look cool-headed, so he wears them. Also, for contrast when he's a homebody at home, we discussed a lot with the hair team to give him a curly, puppy-like look."
On commonalities with the character he said, "I'm actually bright and playful. Looking for similarities with Sunrook, I found that when I work I try to be rational and methodical. Sunrook is cool-headed, rational and methodical at work, and when he comes home he loosens up and shows a dog-like charm. The way he looks when he comes home is originally similar to me, and at work? it's not very different, so I think they're similar. Even I at work? J comes out 98%," he said, sharing the sync rate and raising expectations.
Meanwhile, "Yumi's Cells 3" will be first released on TVING at 6 p.m. on the 13th. It will then air every Monday and Tuesday at 8:50 p.m. on tvN.
