Actor Han Chae-rin took another step forward by showing a level-headed performance and presence uncharacteristic of a newcomer in tvN's Monday-Tuesday drama Seiren (directed by Kim Cheol-gyu/ creator Jo Hyun-gyeong/ written by Lee Young/ produced by Studio Dragon, Cape ENA).
Han Chae-rin delivered a passionate performance as Do Eun-hye in Seiren, which ends on the 7th, playing the sole witness to the mysterious death that signals the start of the story and the younger sister of Do Eun-hyeok (played by Han Jun-woo). Through Do Eun-hye, who directs inexplicable hatred and rage toward Han Seol-a (played by Park Minyoung), Han Chae-rin effectively provoked viewers' curiosity and fully fulfilled her role.
From her first appearance in Seiren, Han Chae-rin seized viewers with an intense gaze and presence that showed no intimidation. In episode 4 of Seiren, she, as the only witness to the death, went to the police and openly displayed seething anger and hostility, saying, "Han Seol-a manipulates everyone around her to do her bidding." Her continued performance of blaming Han Seol-a as the perpetrator brought a tightly woven nuance to the story and helped heighten the work's completeness by injecting turmoil into the plot.
In Seiren, Do Eun-hye, who hated her brother Do Eun-hyeok for putting Han Seol-a above herself, was in fact the only person who had cared for him. Even while sick, when Do Eun-hye criticized Do Eun-hyeok for offering to go to the factory in Han Seol-a's place, her concern and worry for her brother showed through and evoked sympathy. In this way, Han Chae-rin infused moments of pure affection and love for family into her acting, bringing warmth to the character.
Do Eun-hye, who had appeared selfish, was revealed to have a past of domestic violence that left her dependent on and focused solely on her brother, producing a major plot twist. The reality that the brother who was her only world was not happy led Do Eun-hye to take on the role of a villain herself. Han Chae-rin conveyed these moments with calm acting, capturing Do Eun-hye's wounds along with deep sibling affection and the adorable devotion of a sister who idolizes her brother.
Through Seiren, in which she played a villain with reason and delivered a steady performance, Han Chae-rin said through her agency, Hodoo&U Entertainment, "This is a work I want to remember for a long time. Filming was a meaningful time, and it was a set where I learned a lot. I will remember this moment and work even harder going forward. I was truly happy to be part of Seiren," leaving her closing remarks.
Meanwhile, Seiren ends today (the 7th) at 8:50 p.m. with episode 12.
