That day Kim Jang Hoon said, "I was curious whether the siren would go off if you really smoked on a plane," addressing the controversial in-flight smoking. Kim Jang Hoon said, "When I tried smoking, it really did go off," and explained that the action stemmed not from mere curiosity but from a panic state.
Regarding the reason, he recalled, "During performances in Europe, equipment problems and schedule disruptions overlapped, causing extreme stress," and "panic symptoms continued even on the return flight," he said. He added, "I took medicine several times but could not calm down, so I acted impulsively," and expressed remorse once again.
He said that when the plane arrived, detectives were waiting at Incheon Airport. Kim Jang Hoon recalled, "They told me to put out my hands and they would put on handcuffs, but they didn't," and bowed his head saying, "No excuses, my fault."
The incident occurred in December 2014 in the restroom of a Korean Air Lines passenger plane that departed from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport and was headed to Incheon. At the time, Kim Jang Hoon was caught on suspicion of in-flight smoking, and the prosecution later decided not to send the case to a formal trial but issued a summary indictment, considering that it was his first offense and that he apologized immediately when the flight attendants intervened.
