Charles Melton, an actor in 'The Angry People 2,' expressed emotion over filming with Korean actors Song Kang-ho and Youn Yuh-jung.
Netflix held an online press conference for the original series 'The Angry People 2' on the morning of the 7th. Director Lee Seong-jin, who directed the series, and actor Charles Melton attended and spoke with domestic reporters.
'The Angry People 2' is a drama that depicts a fierce battle of persuasion and pressure between two couples and the club owner, a Korean billionaire, after a young couple witnesses a shocking fight between their boss and his wife at a country club where the privileged gather. On the 2023 season, Steven Yeun and others appeared to shed light on the lives of Korean Americans, and season 2, returning after three years, raises expectations with the appearance of Korean actors such as Song Kang-ho and Youn Yuh-jung.
Charles Melton, who gave an energetic performance as Austin in the drama, has a mother who is also a Korean American. He said, "It feels like returning to my hometown to tell a Korean story. I also lived in Korea for about six years when I was young. My mother is Korean American, and I became a U.S. citizen at 11. I was moved and inspired that this story was written. I'm glad to deal with diverse stories."
He also praised, "I usually like the works of directors Park Chan-wook and Bong Joon-ho, and Korean films such as 'Memories of Murder,' 'Oldboy,' 'Parasite,' 'Mother,' and 'The Man from Nowhere,' and Director Lee Seong-jin seems like their artistic son," and emphasized, "Director Lee Seong-jin appears to bring Korea's cinematic art into fiction. That art has no limits. He tells human nature revealed there, not only identity but also by analogy to capitalism. I'm grateful to be given space to act in roles that connect with my Korean roots."
Charles Melton expressed emotion about filming with Song Kang-ho and Youn Yuh-jung, saying, "I owe Director Lee Seong-jin a great debt. I was able to act with such great actors." He emphasized, "Just being able to face the performances of Youn Yuh-jung and Song Kang-ho had tremendous presence," and added, "I felt humility in how they prepared and worked."
He went on, "There was a moment when Song Kang-ho laughed at me in one take and it became a blooper, and that was the best moment of my career," he joked, adding, "Acting with senior Youn Yuh-jung was like magic. In that process, it was so cool to see Director Lee Seong-jin unfold the story. They are the best actors, and my whole family was so happy to hear the news that I was acting with them. They were very pleased that I was working with Korea's legends."
'The Angry People 2' will be released on Netflix on the 16th.
