Offset (34), the rapper formerly of Migos who has led the U.S. hip-hop scene, was shot in Florida and rushed to a hospital. Worldwide fans breathed a sigh of relief at the news of another gunshot only three years after the tragic loss of fellow member Takeoff.
On the 6th local time, according to foreign outlets including TMZ and the Daily Mail, Offset was shot near the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Big Bet in Hollywood, Florida. A spokesperson for Offset confirmed he had been shot, saying, "Fortunately his condition is stable and he is recovering under close monitoring at a hospital."
What makes it more tragic is that Offset had been interacting with fans up until just before the incident. According to witnesses, Offset was standing near the casino valet area taking a call, and he responded with a bright smile to fans who recognized him and approached, even taking photos with them.
But that peaceful scene was shattered by sudden gunfire around 7 p.m. Seminole Police Department officially announced, "An incident occurred in the valet area, and one man sustained injuries that are not life-threatening and was transported to a nearby hospital," adding, "Police immediately responded to the scene, secured the situation, and arrested two suspects at the scene for investigation."
The incident reopened trauma for fans from three years ago. In 2022, another Migos member, Takeoff, was killed in a shooting near a bowling alley in Houston, leading the group toward de facto disbandment. At the time Offset was plunged into deep grief and delayed the release of his solo album, among other hardships.
The hip-hop community was shocked to hear that, not long after losing a colleague, one of its own had become a victim of gun violence. Fortunately this incident is reported to be non-life-threatening, but fans' concerns are deepening over the recurring fear of gun violence.
Offset has three children with his ex-wife, rapper Cardi B, and until recently had continued active music activities. Last year he released the solo album Kiari, accelerating his solo career. Offset, currently resting in a hospital, is expected to have his discharge determined after detailed examinations.
