'아니근데진짜' comedian Shin Dong-yeob said he incurred 10 billion won in debt in the past due to a failed guarantee.
On the 6th broadcast of the SBS entertainment program '아니 근데 진짜!' (abbreviated as '아근진'), Shin Dong-yeob, appearing as a talk show guest for the first time in 15 years, was shown talking about past stories with the four MCs Tak Jae-Hoon, Lee Sang-min, Lee Suji and Kai.
That day Tak Jae-Hoon referred to the MBC entertainment program '오빠밴드' in which he had appeared in the past and complained, "My wife is a PD but her husband is a player. I've never seen a scene like that. I, and all the other cast members, were uncomfortable."
He continued joking, "She's a PD but also a sister-in-law and a sister-in-law by marriage. We were so uncomfortable, so I wondered how Shin Dong-yeob felt," to which Shin Dong-yeob recalled, "At that time I had badly mis-signed as a guarantor and was going through an incredibly hard time."
Shin Dong-yeob went on, "I was out of my mind, and when I turned on my phone during breaks there would be hundreds of missed calls," confessing, "Looking at the messages I thought, 'Do I have to answer even this?' " and hinted that the emotional toll from the debt made him unable to care about other things.
The MCs marveled, "You could still get married knowing about the debt. The power of love is remarkable," and Shin Dong-yeob surprised listeners by saying, "My wife married me without knowing about my debt."
When asked how they reacted upon learning the exact amount of the debt, Tak Jae-Hoon defended him, saying, "What could you do? Dong-yeob did his best," while Shin Dong-yeob replied, "Still, because I had worked hard, once things were sorted out it was a situation where I could repay the debt," providing a sense of relief.
Separately, Shin Dong-yeob, who had said, "I married because she was fun and pretty," showed his romantic side, saying, "I married because she was pretty. Later I found that, coincidentally, she was also fun. At the time I liked Hong Kong actress Maggie Cheung, and my wife had that kind of vibe. She had an immediately striking charm, so I courted her."
Later Shin Dong-yeob mentioned reuniting with Lee Sora, who had been a partner in a past public relationship, saying, "My relationship with Lee Sora was before I met my current wife. It is a page of my life and I didn't think it needed to be torn out. My wife also supported the reunion (after 25 years)," drawing attention.
