"Simwoomyeon Yeonriri" announced the birth of a K-family rural healing drama with Park Sung-woong's family's realistic return-to-farming story that becomes more engrossing the more you watch.
In episodes 1 and 2 of the KBS 2TV miniseries "Simwoomyeon Yeonriri" (directed by Choi Yeon-soo, written by Song Jeong-rim and Wang Hye-ji), the slapstick return-to-farming story of the Seong Tae-hoon (Park Sung-woong) family, who moved down to the pristine yet ruthless (?) area of Yeonriri, unfolded. In particular, K-family head Seong Tae-hoon and the three brothers Seong Ji-cheon (Lee Jinwoo), Seong Ji-sang (Seo Yoon-hyeok) and Seong Ji-gu (Yang Woo-hyeok) each revealed their personalities at a glance and captured viewers' attention.
K-family head Seong Tae-hoon: woke up as a farmer, never give up!
"Simwoomyeon Yeonriri" begins in earnest when Seong Tae-hoon, a former department head at the food conglomerate "Matstory," is assigned to the Yeonriri branch. He considered quitting, but as the head of a household responsible for an eldest son attending medical school and children studying abroad, he chose reality and, with no preparation like heading into bare ground, challenged himself to grow napa cabbage. With determined resolve, Seong Tae-hoon succeeded in sprouting cabbage despite the Yeonriri village chief Im Joo-hyung (Lee Seo-Hwan)'s intense scrutiny and the company's absurd farming mission, prompting viewers' cheers. But at the end of episode 2, Seong Tae-hoon received news that Seong Ji-sang and Seong Ji-gu had run away, foreshadowing another time bomb. Attention is focused on whether the family-loving K-family head Seong Tae-hoon can succeed in both cabbage farming and raising his children.
Eldest son Seong Ji-cheon: will he find dreams → love in Yeonriri? experiencing life while smelling the earth!
Seong Ji-cheon, the eldest son of the Seong family who is attending medical school, inadvertently headed to Yeonriri with his parents. Having quietly settled in Yeonriri, he seemed preoccupied, deliberately avoiding contact from his academic adviser, hinting at an unusual backstory. Later, after meeting Im Bo-mi (Choi Gyu-ri), the village chief couple's only daughter, he felt a flutter and, at her suggestion, began working part-time in the school cafeteria. As scenes show Seong Ji-cheon feeling joy for the first time on Yeonriri's soil, curiosity grows about his hidden narrative and the coming growth period.
Second son Seong Ji-sang · youngest Seong Ji-gu: the combo of a middle-school syndrome romantic and the adorable youngest!
Seong Tae-hoon's second son Seong Ji-sang and youngest Seong Ji-gu also moved to Yeonriri with their parents and are making their presence known. Seong Ji-sang, going through turbulent adolescent years, expressed dissatisfaction with the limited Yeonriri life and showed playful behavior, while Seong Ji-gu, intrigued by the unfamiliar village life, added vitality to the drama with his curiosity and high knowledge level. Among moments that elicited cute laughter was Seong Ji-gu asking his disgraced father, "Dad, is your company 망했어?" or tasting Yeonriri's specialty taro stems and exclaiming, "OMG!(oh my god)" in wonder.
In episode 2, middle-school syndrome romantic Seong Ji-sang dramatically changed the tone of the drama when he ran away with Seong Ji-gu to meet his girlfriend Carol. The commotion over the two brothers, who are growing up in Yeonriri, and their runaway incident made viewers more eager for the next episode.
