On "Ani Geunde Jinjja," broadcaster Shin Dong-yeob attracted attention with an anecdote about a "10 billion won debt" and the seemingly perfect(?) marriage story with his wife, PD Seon Hye-yoon.
On the 6th episode of the SBS variety show "Ani Geunde Jinjja," Shin Dong-yeob recalled a time when he had shouldered roughly 10 billion won in debt after guaranteeing loans and business failures.
While engaging in various talks, Shin Dong-yeob said, "At the time I guaranteed a loan incorrectly and I was mentally in a very difficult situation," and "During filming there were hundreds of missed calls. Seeing that, I even wondered, 'Do I have to take responsibility for this too?'" he confessed. In reality, it was a situation where adverse factors piled up, from the functional shoe business to the entertainment business and even debt guarantees.
In particular, regarding the scale of the debt, Lee Sang-min remarked, "Your amount is larger," revealing that it was a larger sum than his own past debt of 6.9 billion won, which surprised people. Tak Jae-Hoon also recalled, "I knew the circumstances at the time but thought things would work out," and apologized for his mistake of not knowing.
Shin Dong-yeob said, "People around me warned it was dangerous, but I didn't listen because of greed," and "Looking back, it was a time of great realization. That experience was rather a gift." He continued, "You really have to be careful about guarantees," and added the bittersweet anecdote that, "I lent money with good intentions, but I saw people repay those who paid interest first and not repay me, which made me keenly feel that the world doesn't align with my heart," describing how his goodwill was met with betrayal.
What drew the most attention was the situation at the time of marriage. Shin Dong-yeob revealed, "My wife didn't know I had debt when we married; she found out after marriage," surprising everyone. Everyone even joked, "a perfect story." When asked about his wife's reaction, Shin Dong-yeob said, "It was a structure that could be repaid if things were sorted out," and revealed the financial means to repay the 10 billion won debt, which attracted even more attention.
In this regard, PD Seon Hye-yoon's past remarks are being reexamined. On one broadcast she confessed, "Early in the marriage I learned my husband had 10 billion won in debt," and "Because the amount was so large, it didn't really feel real." She added a pragmatic judgment: "When I calculated how we should live, I realized I could earn it. I have a stable job."
She also said, "I didn't trust my husband blindly; I made a thorough calculation and decided," and "I thought that if we sorted everything out, we could start over and live," drawing attention with her "sage-like" comment. Ultimately, despite the crisis of roughly 10 billion won in debt, the two endured together with practical judgment and a sense of responsibility. The couple's display of steadfast love is once again surprising people.
