Actor Shin Hyun-been is expected to show a new side of herself in the film "Gunche."
On the 7th, the film "Gunche" (director Yeon Sang-ho, presented/distributed by SHOWBOX, produced by WOWPOINT (WOWPOINT)·Smilegate, co-produced by Midnight Studio) released still cuts of the character Gong Seol-hee played by Shin Hyun-been.
"Gunche" is a film about isolated survivors in a building sealed off by a mysterious outbreak who confront infected people evolving into unpredictable forms. It is the new work of director Yeon Sang-ho, praised for "Train to Busan" and "Face," and has drawn anticipation.
Previously, Shin Hyun-been realistically portrayed the daily life of a resident who seems blunt but has a warm heart in the drama "Hospital Playlist," delivered a restrained performance as a strong, principled character in the drama "Reborn Rich," portrayed suppressed inner emotions heavily in the film "Revelations," and completed a mysterious character by delicately conveying the emotions of a person whose face is not revealed in the film "Face." She has built her own filmography with a wide range of performances. In "Gunche," she is expected to leave a deep impression by showing a further expanded acting spectrum.
Moreover, "Gunche" draws attention as the third work in which Shin Hyun-been collaborates with director Yeon Sang-ho following "Revelations" and "Face." Regarding her appearance in "Gunche," Shin Hyun-been said, "Among the director's works, it was the first time I worked on a piece that deals with situations occurring within a new worldview, so it was interesting and fresh," expressing anticipation for the newly unfolding "Yeoniverse (Yeon Sang-ho universe)."
Director Yeon Sang-ho explained the reason for casting Shin Hyun-been: "I think Shin Hyun-been is an actor whose eyes convey a sense of justice. When considering Gong Seol-hee's choices, I thought the actor should have a face that can convey a sense of justice, so Shin Hyun-been naturally came to mind," raising expectations for the Gong Seol-hee character completed by Shin Hyun-been.
Shin Hyun-been plays Gong Seol-hee, a biotechnologist who struggles to identify the cause of the outbreak at the Dunguri building and resolve it. Gong Seol-hee is a professor in the department of biotechnology and a member of the special investigation team; when contact with her husband who went to the Dunguri building is lost, she accepts the special investigation team's proposal to investigate the incident.
The released stills capture Gong Seol-hee's changes, from moments of ordinary life before the outbreak to scenes of investigating an unknown laboratory after the incident and speaking on the phone with a serious expression. They vividly show how the mysterious outbreak upends her daily life. As questions arise about how a person standing between the emotions of a victim's family and professional expertise as a scholar will resolve the situation, expectations also rise for Shin Hyun-been's performance to convincingly portray a complex inner life.
"Gunche" is scheduled to open in May. <
