During a concert by the group Super Junior, a fence collapsed, and Ryeowook is reported to have stayed by the injured fans' side until the end.
Super Junior held the encore performance of their 20th anniversary world tour 'SUPER SHOW 10' SJ-CORE in SEOUL at the Olympic Park KSPO DOME in Bangi-dong, Songpa District, Seoul, on the afternoon of the 5th.
The accident occurred during the final encore stage near the end of the performance. While Ryeowook was approaching the audience to greet fans during the performance, a fence collapsed. As a result, three people were injured and transported to a hospital for treatment.
According to on-site video of the accident, while Ryeowook was performing fan service and reached out his hand as he approached the audience, fans who wanted to see him up close surged forward, and the fence could not bear the weight and collapsed. Several spectators seated in section 2 fell along with the fence. Ryeowook appeared to be startled and covered his head with both hands.
Afterward, Ryeowook is reported to have stayed by the injured people until the end. One injured fan said on social media, "Ryeowook and Choi Si-won immediately came down right after the accident. Another member also came and checked on our condition," and added, "I thought everyone had gone after the hospital examination, but Ryeowook continued to stay and wait in his place."
The fan, responding to criticism of Ryeowook's handling of the incident, said, "They are truly warm people. Don't cut out context and criticize," and directly described the situation at the time.
SM Entertainment also said in a statement, "During the final encore song, a safety fence installed beside the audience area by our company collapsed, and three audience members fell and were injured. The injured were immediately transported to a hospital for examination and treatment, and medical staff determined that two weeks of rest and treatment are required for sprains and bruises."
It also said, "We offer our deep apologies to those affected and their families, and we will support medical treatment so that the injured audience members can fully recover, and we will do our best until they are completely healed," adding, "As the event organizer, we feel a heavy responsibility for this accident, and we will take thorough measures on facility safety inspections and audience management to prevent the same accident from recurring."
