Park Chan-wook and Bong Joon-ho director's film-appearing actor Kim Jin-gu's death marked its 10th anniversary.
The late Kim Jin-gu on April 6, 2016, after finishing filming the KBS 2TV drama "Uncontrollably Fond" in Uljin and was on his way home when his condition suddenly worsened and he was transported to a hospital. He was later diagnosed with a cerebral hemorrhage and underwent surgery, but he died of respiratory failure while his condition was being observed.
At the time the late Kim Jin-gu had finished filming a bit part in "Uncontrollably Fond." A person familiar with the matter said, "The production team and cast were all shocked and saddened when they heard the news. We offer our deepest condolences to the deceased." This news was reported belatedly in May, a month later.
Thus "Uncontrollably Fond" became the deceased's final work; he appeared in episode 19 of "Uncontrollably Fond," which aired on Sept. 7, 2016, and a message of condolence was also shown.
The late Kim Jin-gu enrolled in the Department of Applied Arts at Hongik University College of Fine Arts but dropped out, and later graduated from the Seoul Institute of the Arts. She debuted in 1971 as a KBS public recruitment class 9 talent and in 1985 won the Best Actress Award at the 22nd Dong-A Theatre Awards.
The deceased performed various characters across dramas and films, including Best Seller Theater and "Heo Jun."
She also appeared in works by directors Bong Joon-ho and Park Chan-wook. In Bong Joon-ho's film "Barking Dogs Never Bite" she played the chihuahua owner's grandmother, and in "Mother" she played Moon Ah-jung's grandmother. She also played Go Sun-suk in Park Chan-wook's "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance." She also appeared in "Oasis", "Great Inheritance", "Grandma is a first grader", "Dohee-ya", and "Missing: The Other Side" among others.
