"Gunche" Jun Ji-hyun revealed the reason she returned to the screen after 11 years.
On the morning of the 6th at CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall in Seoul, a production briefing for the film "Gunche" was held. Director Yeon Sang-ho, lead actress Jun Ji-hyun, Koo Kyo-hwan, Ji Changwook, Shin Hyun-been, Kim Shin-rock, Go Soo and others attended the event.
"Gunche" (director Yeon Sang-ho, distributed by SHOWBOX, produced by WOWPOINT·Smilegate, co-produced by Midnight Studio) is a work that depicts the desperate battle of isolated survivors inside a building sealed off by an unidentified infectious outbreak as they fight against infected people who evolve into unpredictable forms.
It is Yeon Sang-ho's new work that both heralds a new evolution of the zombie genre and follows films such as "Train to Busan," "The Face" and "Hell." Director Yeon Sang-ho is expected to announce the birth of a new species different from existing zombies through "Gunche," once again showcasing the genre's evolution. In addition, Jun Ji-hyun, who returns to the screen 11 years after the hit film "Assassination," along with Koo Kyo-hwan, Ji Changwook, Shin Hyun-been, Kim Shin-rock and Go Soo form a dazzling lineup that raises expectations by name alone, and they are expected to show an intense and fresh ensemble.
Jun Ji-hyun gave a passionate performance as Kwon Se-jung, a biotechnologist and the leader of the survivors in the film. She returns to the screen 11 years after the 10-million ticket film "Assassination."
She described the Kwon Se-jung character as "a professor of biotechnology and the leader of the survivor group. She is upright and stands against injustice, and in extreme situations she acts decisively so that all survivors can survive."
In particular, Jun Ji-hyun said, "I'm excited to return to film after a long time," and noted, "As a sincere fan of the director, I'm happy to greet audiences with the director's work." She continued, "The reason I chose 'Gunche' is that it is a work by director Yeon Sang-ho, and it is rare to be able to work with such excellent actors in one project, so I chose it without hesitation," explaining her reason for appearing.
Meanwhile, "Gunche" is scheduled to be released in May.
