"Perfect Crown" star IU expressed strong confidence and ambition about being "industry No. 1."
On the afternoon of the 6th, at the Josun Palace Seoul Hotel in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, an MBC press conference was held for the new Friday-Saturday drama "Perfect Crown." Present were the drama's lead actors IU, Byeon Woo-seok, Noh Sang Hyun, Gong Seung-yeon, Yu Su-bin, Lee Yeon, and director Park Jun-hwa. Under the moderation of broadcaster Park Kyung-rim, they discussed the production.
"Perfect Crown" is a drama set in a 21st-century constitutional monarchy that depicts a status-breaking romance in which a wealthy chaebol woman who is annoyed because her social status is merely commoner and a sad man who is the king's son but can have nothing carve out their fates. IU plays Seong Hee-ju, a chaebol who is socially a commoner, and Byeon Woo-seok plays Prince Ian Daegun, Lee Wan, who can have nothing. Also joining are Noh Sang Hyun as Prime Minister Min Jung-woo, from a family that has held the prime ministership for generations, and Gong Seung-yeon as the perfect queen Yoon Yi-rang.
IU, who has been praised as both a singer and an actor for tvN's My Mister, Hotel Del Luna, and Netflix's When Life Gives You Tangerines, takes the title role. On her feelings about taking the title role, IU said, "Seong Hee-ju has everything but lacks status, so she is an annoying woman in a constitutional monarchy. The keyword 'annoying' will make you feel when you watch the drama that this is why the character introduction came first — she's annoying and often angry, but she is also somewhat cute and a three-dimensional character. Reading the script, she came across as an even more three-dimensional character, so I joined "Perfect Crown" without hesitation."
As proof of the anticipation, the drama has drawn unusual attention even before release because of the meeting of Byeon Woo-seok and IU. In response, Byeon Woo-seok said, "I did my best," speaking like Prince Ian, and added, "If the results are good after doing my best, I will be grateful, so please give us a lot of interest and support."
IU said, "I've never lost the title of industry No. 1. Our "Perfect Crown" team also aims to be industry No. 1," joking in character, and added, "These days we are working hard on promotions, and as many people are looking forward to it, filming is completed and the director is diligently doing postproduction. The actors are putting their lives into promoting it and doing their very best," urging anticipation for the production.
"Perfect Crown" will premiere on Friday the 10th at 9:40 p.m.
