'Climax' Ha Jiwon confessed that she lost weight for the character Chu Sang-a.
On the afternoon of the 6th, at ENA conference hall located in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, an interview with Ha Jiwon, the lead actress of the ENA Monday-Tuesday drama "Climax," was held.
"Climax" depicts prosecutor Bang Tae-seop, who jumps into a cartel of power to stand at the top position in Korea, and the fierce survival drama of those around him. Ha Jiwon is fiercely performing as Chu Sang-a, who was once the top actress but fell. After marrying Bang Tae-seop (played by Ju Jihoon), a prosecutor thirsty for success, she makes a dangerous transaction with entertainment company president Lee Yang-mi (played by Cha Joo-young) to get back to being a top star. In this process, shocking developments such as a past kiss scene with a same-sex lover, suspicions of ordering a murder, and entertainment industry sponsors created astonishment.
Earlier, Ha Jiwon changed her figure for the role of actress Chu Sang-a. She said, "Because my body as Ha Jiwon gives a very healthy image, I deliberately changed my body. I did intense exercise or weight training to reduce muscle a bit and did stretching to make it look long and sensitive. At the same time, the work of erasing myself seemed difficult." In addition to the drama, she is showing a new side not seen before by experiencing freshman college life through her YouTube channel "26hakbeon Jiwoniyo."
Ha Jiwon said, "In the drama, there was a setting where Chu Sang-a could not eat food as if she had anorexia. During that period, I actually felt the same emotion as if I could not eat. At that time I thought, 'I hope we finish filming this drama quickly.' Although I am playing the character Sang-a, because I have to act within that, it was not an easy character psychologically."
She added, "Sang-a makes choices and flows according to those choices, continually experiencing identity confusion and change. Because I actually went through those things, I wanted to finish this work quickly. Now that the work is released, I feel more relieved than I did then."
Ha Jiwon confessed that she intentionally lost weight, saying, "The director said Sang-a is sensitive and the desired image was extremely thin but a very well-managed actress. I lost weight and did fittings, but he said he wished the slip would look a bit roomier. (laughter) Chu Sang-a wears many clothes like slips. So I lost more weight."
She also said, "Because I naturally have a muscular body type, it was very difficult to reduce muscle. So when I lost weight I did not walk. Because I have a muscular constitution, if I ran or exercised hard, muscle would build easily, so I focused on stretching," and answered, "I did stretching very diligently according to Sang-a's rules. I really worked hard on stretching to make my muscles thin."
She has lost so much weight that people say she looks "skin and bone" these days, and Ha Jiwon said about this, "There is about a 5kg difference. I was originally 50kg but reduced to 45kg. I made chubby muscles thin," adding, "These days I am running and slowly recovering."
Meanwhile, "Climax" is a total of 10 episodes and airs every Monday and Tuesday at 10 p.m.
