Perfect Crown's Byeon Woo-seok honestly shared his feelings about the pressure of presenting a new project after Lovely Runner.
On the afternoon of the 6th, at the Chosun Palace Seoul Hotel in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, a press conference was held for MBC's new Friday-Saturday drama Perfect Crown. Present at the event were the drama's lead actors IU, Byeon Woo-seok, Noh Sang Hyun, Gong Seung-yeon, Yu Su-bin, Lee Yeon and director Park Jun-hwa. They discussed the work under the moderation of broadcaster Park Kyung-rim.
Perfect Crown is a drama set in a 21st-century constitutional monarchy that depicts a social-status–breaking romance about a woman who has everything as a chaebol but is frustrated because her status is only commoner, and a man who is a king's son but sad because he can have nothing. IU plays Sung Hee-ju, a chaebol who is a commoner, and Byeon Woo-seok plays Prince Ian Daegun Lee Wan, a prince who can have nothing.
In particular, Perfect Crown is the first drama Byeon Woo-seok is presenting since the tvN drama Lovely Runner, which became a syndrome-level hit.
When asked whether he felt pressure choosing Perfect Crown as his next work after Lovely Runner, Byeon Woo-seok said, "I am grateful for the great interest and love. I would rather that people love it even more. I plan to improve even a little and do my best as much as the interest and love continue. Actually, I like the attention. I like it very much. There is not no pressure. Still, because people show interest, I think I have to portray the character well. I think this is a mindset an actor should have when acting, rather than pressure."
He also spoke about his chemistry with IU, saying, "In fact, we had worked together twice before. It was so amazing that the 10 years of chemistry that had continued since then were shown in this work, so it was very, very enjoyable. On set IU made me feel comfortable and was a big help, so I am very, very grateful."
Above all, Byeon Woo-seok said, "Prince Ian Daegun is the royal family member most loved by the people in the drama. But he is the second son of the royal family who must not make noise or shine. The biggest reason I chose the role is that when I read the script I could imagine it well; the scenes were easy to picture. And I empathized with Prince Ian Daegun's arc. When I saw the character I wanted to act it well," he said, increasing anticipation.
Perfect Crown will premiere on Friday the 10th at 9:40 p.m.
