The film "The King's Warden" (hereinafter The King's Warden) surpassed 16 million admissions.
On the morning of the 5th, distributor SHOWBOX posted on its official social media, "'The King's Warden' surpasses 16 million admissions," adding, "We sincerely thank the footsteps that came to Gwangcheon-gol until audiences became eternal friends of The King's Warden, and we released a music video where you can feel The King's Warden's emotion again."
The released music video is the song "Friend," a collaboration between singer Jeon Mi-do, lyricist Yoon Jongshin and composer Dalparan. In the music video's opening, Danjong (Park Jihoon) reads a letter to court lady Maehwa (Jeon Mi-do), saying, "You were my friend, my sister, my mother," and, "Leaving behind those grateful days, I will set out on a journey. If I am reborn in the distant future, I hope you will be my friend then too," as he faces death, bringing tears to viewers' eyes.
Currently, The King's Warden ranks third in all-time box office, just 260,000 admissions behind second-place Extreme Job (16.26 million). It is steadily drawing 40,000–50,000 weekday viewers and still pulling in more than 100,000 viewers on weekends. Because of this, it is expected to overtake Extreme Job next week to become the second-highest of all time. By gross revenue, it already surpassed first-place The Admiral: Roaring Currents (17.61 million) early on.
Meanwhile, The King's Warden depicts the story of 1457 Cheongryeongpo, a village chief who volunteered for exile to revive the village, and the young deposed former king who was exiled.
