Problem Child in House panelists Park Eun-young and Kim Si-hyun surprised everyone by recounting incidents in which they were seriously injured in the kitchen.
On the Feb. 2 broadcast of KBS 2TV Problem Child in House (hereinafter "Problem Child in House"), Park Eun-young and Kim Si-hyun, who appeared on Culinary Class Wars, appeared and shared various stories.
On the day, Hong Jin Kyung said, "I am acquainted with chef Yoon Nam-no," and asked, "I see a lot of scars on your arm. Kitchens are dangerous—have you ever been injured?"
Park Eun-young began, "The most painful injury I experienced did happen. There is a machine for kneading dough that uses flour. It has blades and spins. I put it in according to the recipe, but density changes depending on the season."
She continued, "You can tell to an extent with a light touch. You should turn off the power, but because it was chaotic, I put my hand into the running machine. My hand was torn and mangled. It was my carelessness. I thought my seniors would scold me, but there was blood and I couldn't speak, so I wrapped it with packing tape, put on latex gloves and hid it."
After finishing work in that condition, Park Eun-young secretly went to a hospital for treatment and said, "They stitched it up a lot," revealing the scar that remains to this day. Upon hearing this, Kim Sook said, "That's amazing."
Kim Si-hyun also drew attention by saying she once suffered severe burns while working in a kitchen. She confessed, "I once had a serious burn long ago. I was hospitalized for about a month while working. At that time, burns covered more than 25% of my body surface area, including my arm and face."
Kim Si-hyun recalled, "Someone was pouring hot water to make tea during a meal, and the floor was slippery during the process, so they slipped. I fell down the stairs. So it splashed on my arm and spread to my face."
She went on, "The chef's uniform was all cotton, so when I was pulled out, it was very shocking and we immediately applied cold water as an emergency measure, but when the clothes were removed, flesh came off my arm. I was hospitalized right away and was told at first I would need to stay 1 to 2 months," which surprised everyone.
Kim Sook asked, "Did you fully recover?" and Kim Si-hyun said, "At first I was wrapped like a mummy. My upper body was wrapped, and looking at other burn patients, some people's faces had melted; I was very scared. I even skipped my father's visit at that time. It was hard to see anyone," she confessed.
She added, "Currently the burn marks are almost gone. If I remove makeup there's a slight mark that only I know about."
Regarding the trauma, Kim Si-hyun said, "I thought I would have trauma too, but thanks to my colleagues' consideration, I returned to the restaurant and did not develop a great fear," expressing her gratitude.
