IU and Byeon Woo-seok showed off a beautiful married-couple chemistry.
Actors IU and Byeon Woo-seok graced the cover of fashion magazine ELLE's April special edition. This pictorial was shot with the concept of capturing the sweet and lovely wedding scenery of the two, who collaborated in MBC's Friday-Saturday drama Perfect Crown. Like Seong Hee-ju and IAAN daegun, who continue their relationship through a "contract marriage" in the drama, the fairytale-like chemistry of the two as bride and groom on a spring day captures attention.
An interview was held after the pictorial shoot. Perfect Crown portrays the romance between Seong Hee-ju, a woman who has everything but whose status is commoner, and IAAN daegun, the king's son who can have nothing, set in a 21st-century constitutional monarchy Korea. IU said of Seong Hee-ju, "Hee-ju is a very interesting character. Her struggles to build a relationship with IAAN daegun, who is her goal, are both cute and somewhat comical. Above all, I found it interesting that she does not hide her desires," expressing affection.
Byeon Woo-seok said of IAAN daegun, "I always consider the emotions of the character I play to be most important, and IAAN daegun's heart resonated strongly with me. Although his status is high, he is a man who can possess nothing, and at the same time he wants to be happy; his multifaceted inner self came across as attractive," he said.
Regarding their chemistry, the two actors also showed deep trust in each other. IU said, "Woo-seok expressed IAAN daegun far more stylishly than I imagined when reading the script. His appearance on screen was so elegant and handsome that nothing else came to mind but 'beautiful.' We honestly gave each other feedback even on points of concern and came to trust each other firmly, and Woo-seok truly became a reliable partner," she said.
Byeon Woo-seok also expressed affection about IU, saying, "We had many serious conversations about acting, but we also spent a lot of time joking on set (laughs). IU is a very admirable actor with a highly detailed approach to character interpretation and the script, so there is much to learn from her. Personally, she made the set comfortable with her down-to-earth and honest charm, and I am grateful," he said.
Although it may have begun as a contract marriage, Seong Hee-ju and IAAN daegun hold hands and march toward their goals together. While portraying the two characters, Byeon Woo-seok said, "Becoming 'on the same side' means being people who can clearly tell each other 'no' when judging the rightness or wrongness of an action. And if their thoughts align, they can trust each other infinitely." IU added, "Hee-ju and IAAN daegun have clear reasons for needing each other, and they willingly become each other's strength. You will find varied enjoyment in seeing them both separately and together, each moving toward the world in their own way."
