'Dad and me' 'Miss Trot 4' Jin Sun-mi Lee So-na, Her Chanmi, Hong Seong-yun talked about the family members who love them.
On the 1st episode of TV CHOSUN 'Dad and me' (hereafter 'Dad and me'), the main figures of Miss Trot 4—Lee So-na, Her Chanmi, and Hong Seong-yun—appeared. Hong Seong-yun and Lee So-na are trot singers who majored in gugak, and Her Chanmi was an SM trainee who, after a variety of entertainment industry experiences with Five Dolls and Boys and Girls, among others, transitioned to trot singing several years ago and decided to challenge this audition.
Her Chanmi's reason for the challenge was a bit unusual. Her parents, who were singers in their youth, stopped singing because her maternal grandfather opposed it, and inheriting her parents' talent, Her Chanmi was an SM trainee, famous for her tremendous vocals even before Girls' Generation debuted. Later, at another agency she gained recognition again by singing catchy songs with Five Dolls and Boys and Girls, but several years ago she switched to being a trot singer.
Her Chanmi said, "Originally my father wanted to try. But in the early days of Mr. Trot there was an age limit of under 45, so he couldn't. So when I introduced myself I said, 'the daughter of someone who wanted to apply for Mr. Trot but couldn't.'" She continued, "When my mother heard I was going to audition again she secretly applied without telling me because she was worried it might become an issue."
Despite years in the entertainment industry, Her Chanmi received strong support from her parents and older sister. Her Chanmi said, "Of course I used my parents' card too," and smiled brightly, bringing laughter.
With a childlike smile, Hong Seong-yun chose a final song for his grandmother's memories. Hong Seong-yun said, "My parents packed side dishes and brought them from Daejeon. We always ate like that, but on the day of the competition I was so nervous I skipped meals, so they brought something," and "I like kimchi fried rice, ramen, curry and such. They always make curry. Or they boil gomtang and bring it," boasting about his close relationship with his parents.
Hong Seong-yun introduced his grandmother, saying, "I was raised by my grandmother when I was young," and his grandmother said, "Thank you. My child earns money so grandma can buy delicious things," and smiling endlessly as if proud that Hong Seong-yun still looked like a baby in her eyes. The grandmother said, "I brag about my granddaughter at the senior center," and beamed with pleasure.
Lee So-na spoke about her parents who did not hesitate to support her as she pursued the elite gugak course and about her mother who has long suffered from Parkinson's disease. She also revealed that her actor husband helped her greatly in preparing for the competition.
Lee So-na said, "Now that I'm grown I really wonder how they managed to support me. When I was young my mother did every side job imaginable and worked as a school cook for 10 years," and added, "My husband is currently active in drama but originally worked in musical theater. So he conveys lyrics on stage far better than I do," expressing gratitude for her family's love.
