Director Jeong Ji-young of the film "My Name Is" revealed the behind-the-scenes story behind casting actress Yeom Hye-ran.
On the 2nd in the afternoon at CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, a press screening and press conference for the film "My Name Is" (director Jeong Ji-young, produced by Let's Film·Aura Pictures, co-produced by M eighty-three·Viva Film, distributed by CJ CGV·Wide Release) were held. In attendance were director Jeong Ji-young and actors Yeom Hye-ran, Shin Woo-bin, Choi Jun-woo, Park Ji-bin, who, under the moderation of broadcaster Kim Kyung-sik, discussed the work.
"My Name Is" is a well-made mystery drama film that modernly unravels the Jeju April 3rd incident through the two generations story of 18-year-old son Yeong-ok (Shin Woo-bin), who wants to erase his uncool name, and mother Yeong-ok (Yeom Hye-ran), who raises a son a generation younger than her. Yeom Hye-ran, who received praise for the Netflix series When Life Gives You Tangerines, met director Jeong Ji-young, who has cinematographically explored the pains of the times, and the film raises expectations as it features newcomers including former child actor Park Ji-bin as well as Shin Woo-bin and Choi Jun-woo.
Regarding Yeom Hye-ran's casting, director Jeong Ji-young said, "I met actress Yeom Hye-ran in my previous work Boys. Of course, at that time it was a small role. At that time it was a small role. She played the wife of the lead Sul Kyung-gu. We only filmed a few scenes then, but to be honest, I was captivated."
He continued, "Her acting is flavorful and realistic. I thought I wanted to meet such an actor in a larger role. Just as I was preparing the next work, actress Yeom Hye-ran contacted me saying she wanted to do the next project as well. Without hesitation, I cast Yeom Hye-ran as the lead," he said jokingly.
He also said, "From then on I revised the script with Yeom Hye-ran in mind. The only thing I felt sorry about while writing was that Yeom Hye-ran, who is young, had to play an older role. I felt a bit guilty, but when I showed it to her, she said she would do it because of the charm of the protagonist, so I chose her," drawing laughter.
"My Name Is" opens nationwide on the 15th.
