BTS posted a music video teaser for "2.0," a track from their fifth full-length album Arirang (ARIRANG), at 12 a.m. on the 1st on HYBE Labels' official YouTube channel. This music video pays homage to director Park Chan-wook's representative work Oldboy. Even from the short teaser released that day, the scent of Oldboy is felt, raising anticipation for the full version.
The video is set against an old corridor and an elevator. The narrow corridor is filled with people who give off a rough and swaggering atmosphere. As the elevator, which happens to arrive on the second floor, opens, members with a contrasting atmosphere appear. Some are neatly dressed in suits holding newspapers, while someone else, incongruous with the outfit, holds a back scratcher. The newspaper contains phrases like "Brand new 2.0 launched…overall strategy overhaul" and "2.0 hidden secret code discovered." These lines tie into the song title "2.0" and provide a little fun. The hand that unfolds the newspaper slowly lowers, revealing RM's face wearing sunglasses, and the video ends. RM's costume and makeup all evoke the film Oldboy.
"2.0" is a song that expresses BTS's current state, which has entered a new phase after change and growth, with a fresh sensibility. Unconventional rhythms sit atop the impressive hip hop and trap genres, and the lyrics "You know how we do" emphasize their relaxed, confident attitude. The song entered the U.S. Billboard main song chart Hot 100 at No. 50 on the Apr. 4 chart.
