'K-POP Demon Hunters' Lee Jae responded about the 'Golden' royalties.
On the 1st at CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall in Seoul, a press conference was held to celebrate the Netflix film 'K-pop Demon Hunters' winning at the Academy. The event was attended by director Maggie Kang, director Chris Appelhans, Lee Jae, and IDO (Iyoo, Kwak Jung-gyu, Nam Hee-dong).
The original soundtrack "Golden" from the Netflix animated film 'K-pop Demon Hunters' won the award for best original song at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards and also won 'Best Song Written for Visual Media' at the 68th Grammy Awards, marking it as the first K-pop work to win such honors.
Moreover, last month at the 98th Academy Awards held in Los Angeles, the song won best original song, creating an unprecedented record in K-pop history.
That day Lee Jae also spoke about the Academy celebration stage, which was full of Korean colors. He said, "I knew during rehearsals, and I also cried a lot during rehearsals."
He continued, "We sang together. In particular, the two were friends who did not know much about Korean culture. That this could finally be on a big stage, in the United States. Being able to perform with Korea's gugak and pansori was a moment that made me very proud as a Korean. It was truly satisfying and moving. We were hiding behind the stage and came up after the pansori ended, and at that moment we gained confidence. It was wonderful," he said.
Asked about the audience's reaction, "I deliberately didn't look. I was afraid my voice would tremble so I didn't watch, and I looked afterward. It's so amazing. To have Leonardo DiCaprio hear my live performance in my lifetime. It's so amazing. I felt this is truly the power of K. Emma Stone liked it so much," he said in admiration.
Especially as the singer of 'Golden' who also co-wrote and co-composed the song, when asked about the settlement money, he said, "For now, I don't know yet. It will take some time. But first, I'm glad the song did well. And I'm looking forward to (the settlement). I'll buy a gift for my mother. I'm getting married too," he joked, drawing laughter.
