"Wannabe grand duke couple" IU and Byeon Woo-seok promise visual fun with glamorous and elegant fashion.
Perfect Crown, a new MBC Friday-Saturday drama that will premiere on the 10th (Fri) at 9:40 p.m., (written by Yoo Ji-won/ directed by Park Joon-hwa, Bae Hee-young/ planned by Kang Dae-sun/ produced by MBC, Kakao Entertainment) stars IU (as Seong Hee-ju) and Byeon Woo-seok (as Lord Ian), who personally revealed their characters' styling concepts.
First, IU, who plays Seong Hee-ju, said, "Seong Hee-ju is a chaebol family figure who is also a celebrity who attracts attention and creates buzz wherever she goes," and added, "Her basic style is a CEO-like suit with a sharply parted hairline, but at times we deliberately used bold colors that break TPO, light dresses, blue jeans with red sneakers, and as many varied stylings as possible to draw attention within the drama's world."
Next, Byeon Woo-seok said about crafting Lord Ian's styling concept, "We started from the assumption that royalty continued into the modern era, and tried to blend the advanced era we live in now with traditional beauty. I discussed with the costume team, tried on clothes and got ideas to shape the style," revealing the behind-the-scenes work. In fact, Byeon Woo-seok participated directly in costume production to realize the constitutional monarchy setting, repeatedly adding detailed opinions and deliberating.
IU and Byeon Woo-seok's hidden efforts to infuse the characters' personalities into the costumes can be seen in the released photos. Seong Hee-ju (played by IU) exudes CEO power in suits of various colors that combine intensity and elegance. She also shows the fashion sense befitting the head of Castlevue, wearing floral shoes with a cute patterned daily hanbok and using red sneakers as a point with comfortable jeans.
Meanwhile, Lord Ian (played by Byeon Woo-seok) draws attention with outfits that reinterpret hanbok such as cheolik, jeogori and durumagi in a modern way. Western suit forms like shirts and jackets use soft silk fabrics and traditional elements such as clothes strings and dongjeong to create an elegant yet antiquated charm.
In this way, IU and Byeon Woo-seok will enhance immersion in the unique constitutional monarchy world of Perfect Crown with detailed character settings from head to toe. As the moniker "wannabe grand duke couple" suggests, viewers can look forward to IU and Byeon Woo-seok's transformations, which will target viewers' tastes with diverse fashions each episode.
