The Korea Music Content Association is changing its name to the Korea Popmusic Industry Association (KOREA POPMUSIC INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION, KPIA) and embarking on a new leap forward.
The Korea Music Content Association announced that it changed its name to the Korea Popmusic Industry Association (hereinafter the Korea popmusic industry association) at the board of directors meeting and general meeting held on the 31st.
The name change was decided to clearly define domestically and internationally the character and purpose of the association, which practically encompasses the entire popular music industry in Korea.
Meanwhile, the Korea popmusic industry association appointed Woo Seung-hyun as its new chairman through this board of directors meeting and general meeting.
Newly appointed chairman Woo Seung-hyun said the name change is not a simple replacement of a title but an effort to redefine the association's role amid a changing music industry environment, and said the association will establish itself as an action-oriented body that structurally organizes the issues across Korea's popular music industry and leads discussions on policy and system improvements.
The Korea popmusic industry association is an organization composed of member companies representing Korea's popular music industry, including major domestic record producers such as HYBE, JYP, SM and YG, distributors such as Kakao Entertainment, and overseas direct distributors, and is a corporation established with formal approval from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on Dec. 9, 2008.
