IDO expressed feelings about the 'speech interruption' incident that occurred when they won the Academy Award.
On the 1st at CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall in Seoul, a commemorative press conference was held for Netflix's 'K-pop: Demon Hunters' Academy Award win. Attending the event were director Maggie Kang, director Chris Appelhans, Lee Jae, and IDO (Iyoo, Kwak Jung-gyu, Nam Hee-dong).
The original soundtrack "Golden" from Netflix's animated film "K-pop: Demon Hunters" won best original song at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards and also won "Best Song Written for Visual Media" at the 68th Grammy Awards, achieving the milestone of being the first K-pop work to win.
Furthermore, at the 98th Academy Awards (commonly known as the Oscars) held last month in Los Angeles, it won best original song, creating an unprecedented record in K-pop history.
However, the OST "Golden" from 'K-pop: Demon Hunters' won the best original song award and the composing team went on stage. After Lee Jae spoke first, composer Iyoo tried to speak next, but a signal sound immediately played and the speech was cut off, sparking controversy over "racial discrimination."
Regarding this, Iyoo said, "At that time I wanted to convey that everyone's families, The Black Label, Teddy PD, and all our members worked hard and congratulations. It was a brief speech, and I was disappointed I couldn't do it, but it was an honorable moment so I enjoyed it."
When asked about unfinished remarks, Nam Hee-dong also said, "Actually I agree with Yuhan. It was something we discussed together. There was nothing left unsaid, but from my position watching from behind I just enjoyed it. Including the unexpected events, from watching to stepping onto the stage and watching many actors, the moment itself was fun and an honor."
Upon hearing this, director Maggie Kang reported, "As far as I know, they decided who would speak among the three by rock-paper-scissors," and Kwak Jung-gyu laughed, "We decide everything by rock-paper-scissors. Completely Korean style." Iyoo then said, "I won at the Oscars, and I also won at the Golden Globes so I went up," which drew laughter.
