Actor Yoon Da-hoon shared that he has become a grandfather.
On the 31st broadcast of KBS1's Morning Yard, actors Yoon Da-hoon and Moon Hee-kyung from the new daily drama "Gippeun Uri Joeun Nal" appeared as the first guests on the new segment "Somunnan Nimgwa Hamkke."
In the day's "decisive scene of my life" segment, news that Yoon Da-hoon had become a grandfather surprised viewers. Yoon Da-hoon said, "My daughter got married and had a daughter, so I became a grandfather. All my family is in Canada. My daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter are in Canada, and when I hold my granddaughter, the staff in shops say, 'Dad is so handsome,'" he joked.
Later he also released a video of his granddaughter, who is now 3 years old. Yoon Da-hoon said, "Her name is Na-eun, but I call her Nana," adding, "She is so cute she can't even be described," showing his affection.
But when asked, "Is your daughter prettier or your granddaughter prettier?" he said, "Many people ask that question. But my daughter comes first. I am fond of my daughter and she is dearer to me," he said. He then laughed, "When my granddaughter grows a bit and sees this on TV, I'll say, 'Granddaughter, you are prettier.' She is so pretty."
Yoon Da-hoon, who revealed that his eldest daughter is 38 years old, also talked about the time he confessed to being an unwed father, which drew great public attention. Anchor Eom Ji-in said, "You love your daughter so much. I remember being very surprised then. When your popularity was at its peak and you were doing 'Three Friends,' you revealed your daughter," and Yoon Da-hoon explained, "It was around 2000. While doing the sitcom 'Three Friends,' many people and reporters already knew I had a daughter before that. But before I received so much love from viewers, people weren't curious about my family. Then, as 'Three Friends' gained popularity, it was reported. Because articles that were different from the facts came out, I probably held my first press conference to correct the record and revealed that I had a daughter."
Anchor Eom Ji-in marveled, "It must not have been easy while your popularity was rising," and Yoon Da-hoon said, "At that time, while doing the sitcom, the broadcaster said if you reveal this you must step down. After weighing it and deciding with my family, I briefly experienced love and then decided I no longer wanted to hide my family or my daughter, so I decided to step down and held the press conference."
But instead he received even more love. Yoon Da-hoon said, "I had several dozen advertisements at the time, and I thought I would have to pay penalties and face big problems, so I prepared for that. But after revealing my family, the next day Korea changed in a very touching way. There was encouragement, 'We support you,' 'a great father,' and though it's embarrassing, 'I want to meet such a son-in-law,' so more advertisement offers came in, and I ended up staying on that sitcom. My daughter turned a setback into a blessing," he said.
About his second daughter, he said, "My second daughter is now 17. Because foreign schools have September semesters, she is entering university. She is very affectionate and does very well," but he honestly laughed, "These days people use video calls. We video call about once a month. We call often, but my second daughter doesn't call often. She only calls when necessary. When she gets a new manicure, she says, 'I need to do my nails. Since I'm at it, can I do my eyebrows too?' She contacts me every time her nails or eyebrows need attention. But after she does them, she doesn't show them to me. She's finished what she needed to do, so she doesn't anymore."
