DAY6 member Wonpil lit the green light for his role as an emotional singer-songwriter with his solo comeback song "Sarang Byeongdong".
Wonpil released his first solo mini album Unpiltered on the 30th. This album is his first new work in about four years since his first solo full-length album Pilmography in February 2022, and Wonpil participated in writing and producing all the tracks, capturing his inner self and narrative as they are, drawing anticipation from music fans.
The title track "Sarang Byeongdong" rose to No. 1 on Bugs' real-time chart on the 30th. In particular, including the title track, all seven songs included on the new record — "Toxic Love", "I became an adult", "Up All Night", "Step by Step", "Not a million flowers", and "Piano" — entered Melon's top 100 chart as of 7 p.m. on the day of release.
On the day of the release, DAY6's official YouTube channel held a live "WONPIL 1ST MINI ALBUM 〈Unpiltered〉 Unpiltered STUDIO." Wonpil said he was releasing a new album alone for the first time in four years and that he wanted to share the music he likes now and was glad to be able to show it through this opportunity. He noted that after his discharge he had been grateful for the interest shown, and his desire to give more musical satisfaction grew, so he tried many new things. He said there were truly many people's efforts and sweat behind the album's release and expressed his gratitude while sounding nervous.
He added that "Unpiltered is an album I made because I wanted to express my emotions. I hope listeners will think, 'He can do this too?' or 'He likes and expresses diverse music,' while listening. There are songs with different musical textures from my first solo album Pilmography as well as some with a similar atmosphere. I hope there will be moments while listening when your heart feels at ease," sharing listening points.
The title track "Sarang Byeongdong" captures the desperate cry from a life barely holding on while crumbling under unrelenting pain. The emotional guitar melody in the introduction and the explosive band sound of rising intense energy combine with Wonpil's plaintive high notes to provide a dramatic auditory pleasure. Since debuting as DAY6 in September 2015, Wonpil, who has offered warm comfort through his songs, represents the hidden emotions of many with his new solo album Unpiltered and the new song "Sarang Byeongdong," which showcase his musical capabilities.
Following the release of the new record, Wonpil will hold a solo concert titled WONPIL SOLO CONCERT 'Unpiltered' for three days from May 1 to 3 at Jamsil Indoor Stadium in Songpa District, Seoul.
