Actor Ha Jiwon overwhelmed viewers by portraying a desperate struggle with nowhere left to fall in ENA's Monday-Tuesday drama Climax.
Ha Jiwon, in episode 5 of ENA's Climax broadcast on the 30th, played Chu Sang-ah, who was driven to the edge by allegations of ordering a murder, and delivered an all-out "dark transformation" performance that spared no means or methods to survive, raising immersion to its peak.
In that episode, Chu Sang-ah (Ha Jiwon), while having a panic attack over suspicions that she had ordered the murder of entertainment producer Oh Kwang-jae (Seo Hyun-woo), faced Hwang Jung-won (Nana), who had saved her. Chu Sang-ah learned that, at her husband Bang Tae-seop's (Ju Jihoon) request, Hwang Jung-won had been monitoring her every move and eavesdropping, but at the words "I'm sorry" she calmly expressed forgiveness, saying "I don't trust anyone, you don't have to be sorry," and moved Hwang Jung-won. Afterwards, when Hwang Jung-won said, "I feel sorry for you," Chu Sang-ah also showed emotional agitation, creating an odd tension.
That night in particular, Chu Sang-ah recalled Jisoo, a colleague and same-sex lover who had died because of Oh Kwang-jae, and cried, and a special bond was formed in the scene where Hwang Jung-won wiped Chu Sang-ah's tears and offered comfort. After the shocking chemistry in which Chu Sang-ah mistook Hwang Jung-won for Jisoo and kissed her, Chu Sang-ah told Hwang Jung-won sincerely, "First I have to stop things from getting worse and somehow survive, and I hope you truly find your life too," and entered full survival mode.
Ha Jiwon's exceptional skill shone even more in the later part of the episode. When public opinion formed that she could not recover, Chu Sang-ah made an extreme move by directly visiting the mother of Park Jae-sang (Lee Ga-seop), whom she had ordered to be killed. Sensing that Park Jae-sang was watching her, Chu Sang-ah knelt before the mother and continued a tearful confession, saying, "I really didn't think something like this would happen, please forgive me just once," shaking even Park Jae-sang's heart. But when Park Jae-sang appeared before her, Chu Sang-ah greeted him, "Long time no see, Park Jae-sang," then instantly changed to a cold expression and completed an unprecedented "chilling ending."
That day Ha Jiwon elicited explosive reactions from viewers by vividly portraying Chu Sang-ah's desperate survival instincts through delicate facial expressions that changed by the second. Immediately after the broadcast, viewers reacted with comments such as "The chemistry with Nana was insane and the ending was even crazier," "I got chills from Chu Sang-ah's tears that made it impossible to tell if they were real or fake," and "An episode that once again proved Ha Jiwon's tremendous acting prowess."
Broadcast on ENA at 10 p.m. on the 31st (today).
