Famous translator Hwang Seok-hee is facing allegations that he committed three sexual crimes in the past, and film fans continue to be shocked.
On the 30th, one media outlet reported that translator Hwang Seok-hee committed a total of three sexual crimes between 2005 and 2014.
According to the report, Hwang Seok-hee molested two women near Chuncheon Kangwon National University in 2005 and assaulted two people who tried to stop him. In addition, in 2014 he was given a suspended sentence for attempted quasi-rape and illegal filming of a student at a cultural center where he worked as an instructor.
The outlet claimed he was indicted twice, in 2005 for forced molestation causing injury and in 2014 for attempted quasi-rape, but both resulted in suspended sentences.
Hwang Seok-hee immediately issued a statement on the matter. He said on social media, "I am currently reviewing the related matters with a lawyer."
He added that he would "consider corrections and responses if the report contains parts that are not factual, unverified content, or expressions that exceed the scope of legal judgment."
The exact facts and the truth regarding the sexual crime allegations have not yet been confirmed. Therefore, additional verification and a statement from the person involved are needed.
But film fans expressed disappointment. Netizens reacted, "The verdict is already out, so it's ridiculous to say you're reviewing it with a lawyer," "Why can't he say it didn't happen?," "This is really shocking," "Shouldn't he apologize and retire?," and "There's a verdict—how are you going to refute it?"
