Singer Jo Gap-kyung is expected to appear on Radio Star despite controversy over his son's alleged affair and divorce.
According to press releases distributed by the MBC entertainment program Radio Star on the 31st, the 959th episode of 'RAS,' to be broadcast on April 1, will feature Jo Gap-kyung, Chae-yeon, Go Woo-ri and Lee Chae-young as guests. As a result, as originally promoted, Jo Gap-kyung is expected to appear, drawing backlash from some viewers.
Jo Gap-kyung has recently drawn public attention due to personal life controversy surrounding his son's divorce. The fallout stems from the ex-daughter-in-law, identified as a person surnamed A, claiming that despite divorcing because of the affair of her then-husband, the son of broadcaster Hong Seo-beom and Jo Gap-kyung, she did not properly receive alimony and child support.
According to the person surnamed A, Hong Seo-beom and Jo Gap-kyung's son married in 2024 but the marriage ended in divorce after eight months. The person surnamed A said she became pregnant shortly after the wedding but had a miscarriage, and during a later pregnancy her then-husband committed an affair, which led to the divorce.
In the divorce proceedings, the first trial court recognized the then-husband's responsibility for the divorce and ordered him to pay the person surnamed A 30 million won in alimony and 800,000 won monthly in child support until the child becomes an adult. The court also ordered the other woman to pay the person surnamed A 20 million won in alimony.
However, the person surnamed A said she had not properly received the alimony and child support until recently when the child turned 18 months old and voiced her grievance. She said she contacted her former parents-in-law, Hong Seo-beom and Jo Gap-kyung, but did not receive help, a claim that shocked the public.
When the controversy erupted, Hong Seo-beom and Jo Gap-kyung initially argued that they helped by giving money to their son to pay part of the alimony, and that child support could not be paid because an appeal was under way after the first trial decision and they were following legal advice. But the person surnamed A posted on her personal social media that Hong Seo-beom and Jo Gap-kyung only responded after public outrage boiled over, and that before then her messages were ignored, continuing her furious criticism.
Meanwhile, Jo Gap-kyung appeared in an earlier RAS trailer, attracting attention. Despite criticism and controversy that flared up within a week, Jo Gap-kyung remains on the RAS guest list with no changes.
According to production staff, the RAS episode featuring Jo Gap-kyung will be themed as a "loyalty trigger" special gathering past military presidents. As a result, the focus is expected to be on Jo Gap-kyung's past individual career highlights rather than family matters. Nevertheless, attention is focused on how much airtime he will receive on RAS as his son's personal controversy continues to draw attention. <
