Comedian Yook Joongwan is being reexamined for delivering deep resonance through warm sharing.
Recently, a video titled "[Oji: Guest-special] A miracle made possible by warm hearts coming together!!" was released on the YouTube channel Yook Joongwan TV. This content is a volunteer project revisiting an elder who formed a bond during the filming of "Nature People," and volunteers gathered around Yook Joongwan to collectively share their intentions.
First, the volunteer event that day included singer Yook Joongwan, YouTuber Gongguwang Hwangbujang, who has 930,000 subscribers, and 12 volunteers. Under the name the "Oji Guest volunteer corps," they gathered from all over the country and came together solely for the purpose of sharing.
Yook Joongwan said the reason he started volunteering was a single word from an elder he met through "Nature People" in the past—"I am lonely." The elder's home in Geoje Eoguhang, which they revisited because of that, was in much worse condition than expected. The walls had collapsed so much that wallpapering was difficult, and the ceiling looked as if it could fall at any moment. Torn window paper and frozen food remained, leaving the traces of a winter endured alone.
Yook Joongwan reassured the elder, saying "We came to help you with everything today," and the volunteers immediately began house repairs and living-condition improvements. From haircuts and hygiene care to wallpapering and insulation reinforcement, they handled tasks meticulously. But because it was an old earthen house, additional materials had to be urgently brought in and large-scale work proceeded.
The scene grew even more solemn when it was revealed that the elder had survived winter with just two blankets left by a mother who had passed away. Yook Joongwan expressed sorrow, saying, How did you endure this winter, weren't you afraid of the coming winter, thinking of the last winter the elder endured alone. With the volunteers, they pooled their strength with the sentiment "let's give the gift of spring," and the house gradually transformed into a warm space.
Facing the neatly cleaned house, the elder could not hide an overwhelmed expression. The house, newly wallpapered and refurbished, had warm floors that put even onlookers at ease. The elder, eyes reddened, grasped Yook Joongwan's hand and, in awkward but heartfelt gratitude, said, Yook Joongwan, I know everything, and Yook Joongwan also could not hold back his emotions and had reddened eyes.
Yook Joongwan said, "Use it cleanly and stay healthy," and delivered living support items including nutritional ready meals. Particularly meaningful was that participants' voluntary donations and support added to this volunteer effort. Yook Joongwan also prepared gifts for the hardworking members, saying, They were clumsy but they worked with joy the whole time; the members worked hard as if it were their own job. I am very grateful to those who sponsored us, and asked, Please help a lot so we can do more great things in the future.
At the end of the video, a caption saying, We hope the small warmth we left does not cool down, added a deep aftertaste. The scene created by gathered sincerity delivered warm emotion and resonance to viewers.
