The Avengers cast reunites in 'Gippeun Uri Joheun Nal' which comes to viewers today (30th).
At the production presentation for KBS 1TV's new daily drama 'Gippeun Uri Joheun Nal' (written by Nam Seon-hye, directed by Lee Jae-sang) held online on the 30th, director Lee Jae-sang attended along with actors Yoon Jong-hoon, Eom Hyun-kyung, Jung Yoon, Yoon Da-young, Kim Hye-ok, Sunwoo Jae-deok, Yoon Da-hoon, Moon Hee-kyung, Lee Sang-sook, and Jung Ho-bin, among others, to talk.
'Gippeun Uri Joheun Nal', which premieres today (30th), is a melodramatic family drama created by various generations who each want to become 'the protagonist of my life,' centered on a hair-trigger life-or-death struggle between the world's most perfect man and a clumsy woman.
Director Lee Jae-sang introduced the work and said, "As a director, I want to express my deep gratitude to the staff and actors who tried to make the best possible work with unimaginably small production costs. We worked hard on the drama, so please watch it a lot," revealing his inner thoughts.
The director added, "I always worry a lot about casting, but it was the best of the best. It almost never strayed from the first choice," expressing satisfaction with the casting.
'Gippeun Uri Joheun Nal' was directed by Lee Jae-sang, who directed Once Again, Father Is Strange, Trot Lovers, and Beautiful Man, and the script was written by Nam Seon-hye, who wrote Sujimajeun Uri (Suzy-matched our) and Amor Party - Love Now.
When asked what he focused on, director Lee Jae-sang, who has previously created several national dramas, said, "As always, I mainly directed small stories from our lives. Rather than a story with big twists, this work features many families and members. While each person is living their own life, they also play multiple roles as family members, members of society, friends, and lovers."
Director Lee Jae-sang said, "They come together and clash, and the point and the most interesting aspect, I think, is showing very basic emotions that you can feel while living so that viewers think, 'That's my story,' and 'It gives some meaning to our lives.'"
Yoon Jong-hoon, who plays the perfectly polished Go-gyeol from head to toe, said about character synchronization, "The perfect man has 0% synchronization with me. The warmth inside Go-gyeol feels 100%," and explained, "I tried to understand and accept the director's directions well and worked hard to act. I tried to perform a slightly flat and awkward demeanor. By awkwardness I mean not being greatly emotionally agitated and managing oneself internally, showing an unrevealed side."
Eom Hyun-kyung returns to KBS for the first time in six years since the 2020 broadcast of The Secret Man. She said, "I'm happy and glad to be back after a long time," and added, "I did a lot of revenge dramas, but doing a family drama with a warm feeling made me empathize with the stories of ordinary people who could exist in daily life. I'm working on that aspect."
Jung Yoon and Yoon Da-young, who will create the main stories together with them, also showed unique charms. Jung Yoon said, "I act in a way that is the opposite of Go-gyeol (played by Yoon Jong-hoon). I don't hide things: if I like someone I like them, if I dislike someone I dislike them. I'm straightforward. It could come off as annoying if I'm not careful, but I try not to be. That side exists in me," mentioning his charm points.
Yoon Da-young also said, "I am different from Eun-ae (played by Eom Hyun-kyung); I'm also cool-headed. I thought of every character in terms of temperature differences. I'm warm toward brother Gyeol, cold toward Min-ho. At home there's also a violent side, and that reversal was shown to Seung-ri, which I felt was attractive."
When asked about viewing points, Jung Yoon said, "I would like people to watch from my perspective first. It has all the emotions of all age groups, so if you watch it you can naturally be absorbed," and Yoon Da-young said, "Each family has different character charms. I think it will be fun to watch."
Veteran actors who will breathe with them also expressed confidence in the work. Sunwoo Jae-deok, appearing as the father of three siblings in the drama, noted a sense of affinity with his real life and said, "I also have three children, and here I also have three. They're all the same. They're so lovable, and in this, Jo Seong-jun is a warm father who covers his children's pain and gets scolded by the mother."
Yoon Da-hoon and Moon Hee-kyung said they were responsible for the atmosphere on set, and Moon Hee-kyung said, "My husband was responsible for the laughs on set. When you see the two of us, people on set seemed to enjoy it."
When asked about expected ratings, Yoon Da-hoon said, "Actually that's a very sensitive and difficult question and you have to be cautious. But the previous work received a good rating of 13 to 14 percent, so people might think we'll exceed that," and added, "Building on that, we aim to create a completed drama that families can watch together and feel the situations, to take one step closer and appropriately exceed 20 percent," expressing confidence.
Moon Hee-kyung also said, "I enjoy filming when I come to set. I wonder if that will be conveyed to viewers. I'm curious what will come up in the next script. I think viewers will feel the same."
Lee Sang-sook spoke about the strengths of 'Gippeun Uri Joheun Nal' and said, "Our work was made with a solid script, our dependable director, and good actors who do their best, so I think you can watch it very enjoyably and entertainingly."
Jung Ho-bin explained, "Our work is also about love within the family, and the most important thing seems to be love. We go through many trials living outside, but family loves its members unconditionally. You can always return, and even if you are hurt you can be comforted by family love. I think it's like that."
With anticipation building before the first broadcast, what did Yoon Jong-hoon and Eom Hyun-kyung feel when they heard about each other's casting? Eom Hyun-kyung said, "When I first heard that Yoon Jong-hoon was cast, I thought the writer and director were an Avengers team and said, 'Wow, this will work. It's an Avengers.' I guaranteed that good people coming together would produce a good drama."
Yoon Jong-hoon, embarrassed by the praise, replied, "This is overwhelming. Since I was someone who watched director Lee Jae-sang's and writer Nam Seon-hye's works, there was no reason not to choose this project. The moment I got to act with Hyun-kyung I thought, 'I've made it; I can act together with her.'"
Meanwhile, KBS 1TV's 'Gippeun Uri Joheun Nal' premieres today (30th) at 8:30 p.m.
