Translator Hwang Seok-hee has expressed a position regarding past sexual crime allegations, and the shows he appears on have been hit by fallout.
Earlier that day Dispatch reported that Hwang Seok-hee committed sexual crimes three times in total, in 2005 and 2014. According to the report, in 2005 he molested women near Kangwon National University and used violence against those who tried to stop him, and in 2014 he was sentenced to a suspended sentence on charges of quasi-rape and illegal filming targeting students at a cultural center.
In response, on the 30th Hwang Seok-hee wrote on social media, "I am currently reviewing the facts with a lawyer," and said he would refrain from further comment while noting, "If there are parts of the report that are not factual, unverified content, or expressions that go beyond the scope of legal judgment, I will consider corrections and legal action."
However, as the allegations spread, repercussions have extended to the broadcasts he appears in. The programs You Quiz on the Block and Omniscient Interfering View, in which Hwang Seok-hee appears, are at issue. Criticizing comments mentioning his past record have continued to appear on VOD.
Currently, episode 143 of You Quiz on the Block is available as VOD on platforms such as TVING, and the episode of Omniscient Interfering View he appeared on last year is also publicly available on the official YouTube channel and others.
However, as tvN is reportedly conducting internal discussions over whether to make that episode private, the situation is drawing more attention. Controversy over Hwang Seok-hee continues to occupy top positions on entertainment rankings on major portal sites and remains a hot topic, and attention is focused on what stance broadcasters will take regarding whether to keep or remove the related VOD.
