Actor Kim Hye-eun successfully concluded the run of the play 'That Was Today 2: Flower Shoes' amid enthusiastic support from audiences.
The play That Was Today 2: Flower Shoes, in which Kim Hye-eun grants appeared, is a two-woman piece and an omnibus-style work composed of four episodes set in a mountain cottage in Jinju in the 1590s, a traditional house in Gongju in the 1950s, a general store in Seoul in the 1970s, and a hospital in the 2020s.
Kim Hye-eun began with the world premiere in Seoul last year and successfully completed the final performance, which closed on the 28th (Saturday) at Sejong Arts Center. Playing Woman 1 in the play, Kim Hye-eun expressed four different characters from different eras in her own colors, delivering a deep resonance to the audience. Her passionate performance, which included dialects reflecting regional characteristics as well as sign language, filled the audience with laughter and tears.
Having proven her presence on stage through That Was Today 2: Flower Shoes, Kim Hye-eun said, "This is my first play, and I feel really lucky that That Was Today 2: Flower Shoes is my first work. It's a production I don't want to let go of," expressing her overwhelming emotions.
Kim Hye-eun, who said, "I was able to taste long-form acting through theater," also shared reflections on performing four roles herself. She said, "Even amid misunderstandings among people with family-like ties, only deep love remains in the heart, and I struggled with how to express that through acting," and added, "The first act was the most difficult, but I was surprised to feel the deepening emotions in the middle of the play."
In particular, Kim Hye-eun turned the spotlight to the audience, who enabled her to show overwhelming energy on stage. She said, "I truly respect the audience who follow my emotions when I act," and left the greeting, "I will not forget the precious time you gave and will work harder on my acting."
