YouTuber Freesia explained the controversy by showing herself using the phone directly amid backlash over her disparaging remarks about Galaxy.
On the 29th, Freesia appeared on her personal YouTube channel with a newly purchased Galaxy phone.
That day Freesia said about her past remarks, "It wasn't that I was disparaging Galaxy or that I dislike Samsung; it's just that when I filmed before I didn't like how my face looked. But many people say these days Galaxy also takes pretty good photos, and there were comments asking me to compare iPhone and Galaxy, so I'm going to try to capture a life shot."
She then mentioned the advantages she felt after using the phone herself, saying, "The selfie camera quality is really good. It feels like it was taken with a camera."
Earlier Freesia had said, "Honestly, if my boyfriend used a Galaxy phone I would feel a little unhappy. My mom and dad use it too, but aren't parents and a boyfriend different? Thinking that he would take my photos with that phone would annoy me. I hardly have any memory of touching one. The only people I could allow to use Galaxy are my mom and dad."
Online, criticisms followed such as, "It's rash to judge people by their phone model," and, "It feels disparaging," while some defended her, saying, "She was just honestly expressing her personal taste," and, "She can state standards for a partner's style."
As the controversy grew, Freesia bowed her head and said, "There may be people who were offended by things I said; rather than hating a specific brand, my tastes are fixed so my expression may have been harsh. Still, I discovered the charm of Galaxy through this opportunity, so regardless of phone model I will show you my pretty self."
