The group BTS revealed candid reactions to their full-group new song "SWIM," released for the first time in four years.
On the 29th, a short video titled 'Title track "SWIM" first reaction. "BTS: The Return"' was released on Netflix Korea's YouTube channel.
The video showed BTS members monitoring the title track "Swim" from their fifth studio album "Arirang (ARIRANG)." Although it was not the finished version, it was a time for listening to the song and sharing opinions. RM said, "Let's listen to it objectively."
After listening to the song, RM opened by saying, "This is, huh… it's kind of dragging. Definitely," and Jimin agreed, "The track itself is kind of dragging." V also commented, "It feels like we're heading in the exact opposite direction of what people expect."
J-Hope said, "When you play it for acquaintances, you kind of hesitate… 'BTS is back after a long time, after four years,' but when you play it like this, the reaction will be kind of…" which drew attention.
By contrast, Suga gave positive feedback, saying, "I actually like this direction." Other members also said, "I don't totally disagree; it's not that I hate the song, I really like it but it's a little scary. It's just really…"
The members continued, "Even with 'Dynamite,' the reaction back then wasn't great. 'It's not our usual style, right?' — stuff like that. Honestly, more than half of us didn't want to do 'Dynamite' at the time," they said.
Suga candidly said, "What I've been saying is more like, 'They could come out with stuff like this?' That might actually look cooler."
RM also said, "It's a mature and cool song, and it is certainly a song that shows change. It should convey a somewhat adult vibe."
BTS released their fifth studio album "Arirang" on the 20th and made a full-group comeback 3 years and 9 months later. The new release sold 4 million copies in three days after its release and reached number one on domestic and international charts.
