The group BTS, returning as a complete lineup, opened up about worries over pronunciation while singing English lyrics.
On the 27th, BTS's documentary "BTS: The Return," released on Netflix, portrayed the members preparing for a comeback.
It candidly showed the members working on their fifth studio album "Arirang (ARIRANG)" in California, USA, and the hardships and concerns during the creative process. In particular, BTS drew attention by voicing complaints about pronunciation while recording songs with English lyrics.
Suga said, "Overall there are so many English lyrics that I wish we could do some lyrics in Korean. Especially rap."
RM added, "Because this is supposed to be a somewhat authentic album, if there ends up being too much English..."
A representative said, "Of course sincerity is important, but if the album is going to be somewhat global, we should at least try it."
RM said, "How are we going to do this in this time? That is, realistically there isn't enough time to eliminate the English pronunciation issues," and he also pointed out a practical solution, "If you need the pronunciation, I'll send it by voice memo."
There were difficulties and concerns about English pronunciation even during the recording process. Jimin and J-Hope repeatedly expressed worries, saying, "It's so difficult."
Discussion about English pronunciation continued even at the following meal. When members were asked about the lyric work, RM opened by saying, "What I kept worrying about while writing was that if this sounds a bit wrong or clumsy, the pronunciation would be a problem," and V said, "Pronunciation is insanely hard."
J-Hope revealed, "We practice much more than for Korean," and Jimin drew attention by saying, "No matter how hard you try in a short period, if it's bad it's just bad."
