Comedian Yoon Taek announced the sad news four days after saying on You Quiz on the Block that his father did not have much time left.
Yoon Taek's agency DCENTERTAINMENT said on the 29th, "Mr. Yoon Taek's father, Im Jong-gak, passed away this morning while battling a chronic illness at the age of 83," and "Yoon Taek is currently keeping vigil at the funeral home with his family in great sorrow," it said.
The funeral hall for the deceased was set up in room 17 of the funeral home at Seoul Sinchon Severance Hospital. The mourners include sons Im Seong-taek, Im Min-taek, Yoon Taek (real name Im Yoon-taek) and daughters-in-law So Jeong-hwa and Kim Young-jo, who are sharing their grief.
Yoon Taek appeared on the March 25 episode of tvN's You Quiz on the Block and, mentioning his father's critical health, broke down in tears. Four days later, he delivered the sad news.
On the broadcast, Yoon Taek said, "My father has terminal cholangiocarcinoma. Now he does not have much time left. Every time I face my father it is so hard. It is so hard to hold back my tears," and he shed tears he had been holding back.
Yoon Taek also calmly conveyed the painful feelings of a son who must prepare for farewell. He said, "Nothing in the world is eternal, but he says he will go peacefully, and although it is regrettable there is no way," expressing the sadness of the situation.
Yoon Taek said that MBN's I Am a Natural Person, on which he appears, brought great joy to his father. Yoon Taek said, "When it was 'I Am a Natural Person,' it seemed like the happiest moment in my father's life. Everyone liked it, and when he went to restaurants people would say, 'Do you know I Am a Natural Person?' 'Yoon Taek is my son,' and he was most happy when he could brag about me," showing his love for his father.
The funeral procession will be held on the 31st at 7:20 a.m., and the burial site is Dangjin, Chungcheongnam-do.
