Jang Young-nam and Jang Hyun-sung paid tribute to 90-year-old actor Shin Goo.
On the 28th, MBN's Kim Joo-ha's Day & Night (hereinafter Day & Night) featured Jang Hyun-sung and Jang Young-nam.
Kim Joo-ha asked, "It's not because your surname is Jang that I invited you two. You do theater," and Jang Young-nam revealed she is performing a play called "Bulranseo Geumgo." Jang Hyun-sung explained, "It is director Jang Jin's first new work in 10 years. Although it's a comedy, the story's progression is sometimes mysterious and it is a secretive space where one can suspect a shocking incident."
He continued, "They gather in a secret place under the bank with one goal: to rob the bank's secret safe. You can't just open it. At 12 o'clock the safe's electronic device unlocks. The reason is a power outage. Tension, thrill. The comedy that breaks through amid that is brilliant," raising curiosity.
Moon Seyoon asked what led him to choose the work, and Jang Hyun-sung said, "I can't say it wasn't because of director Jang Jin. Of course it is, but there is a share. It's 7:3. Shin Goo is the 7. Director Jang Jin and I have been classmates since university. We've been friends for 30 years. I know how precious it is to have time to work with Shin Goo, so… watching the teacher's life brings resonance and consolation," he said.
Jang Young-nam said, "I get choked up every time. He's a tear button. Before rehearsals start he memorizes the script. He said, 'Wasn't the script given early so you would memorize it?' I also shed many tears of reflection. 'This is what beauty is,' it shines," praising the passion of Shin Goo, who turned 90 this year.
Jang Hyun-sung said, "I wasn't there, but what Jang Jin said was, 'It's a first draft so I'll fix a lot, so just skim it without pressure.' If it's going to be revised anyway, looking too closely could make it more confusing, so I deliberately didn't look much. Jang Young-nam said that when talking about Shin Goo, the other actors said they all memorized it. They read the script all night like examinees," he said.
Jang Hyun-sung said, "A play is successful if it comes out as we rehearsed and promised. It seems to have become that. They liked it so much. Shin Goo showed incredibly astonishing acting."
