The current status of actor Cho Jin-woong, who retired amid a juvenile offender controversy, has been revealed.
On Feb. 24, a video titled "Where is Cho Jin-woong now and what is he doing?" was posted on the YouTube channel The Fact Co.
The video said about Cho Jin-woong's current status, "Since announcing his retirement from the entertainment industry, his whereabouts have been almost unknown. He has completely cut off external activities and contact with the press," and added, "It is reported that even acquaintances who were close to him have cut off contact."
It went on to say, "People inside and outside the film industry are saying that, since he acknowledged all past actions, they expect time will pass and he will quietly be forgotten."
Cho Jin-woong announced his retirement from the entertainment industry last Dec. after his past juvenile criminal record became known. At the time, his agency said, "After confirming with the actor, we verified that there were wrongful actions in his youth," and added, "However, this is based on partially confirmed facts, and because the events occurred more than 30 years ago, it is difficult to fully ascertain the circumstances, and related legal procedures have already been concluded, so there are limits."
Cho Jin-woong bowed his head and said, "I bow my head and apologize to everyone who believed in and supported me for causing disappointment because of my disgraceful past. I humbly accept all this criticism, and as of today I will halt all activities and put an end to my career as an actor."
