Webtoon artist Yaongi (real name Kim Nayoung) shared behind-the-scenes details of her second childbirth.
On the 28th, Yaongi posted a "ask me anything" message on her social account and held a Q&A session.
She answered the question "Who does the second resemble more?" with "The first thing I heard when the baby came out was 'Looks exactly like dad~!' He'll probably look like me as he grows." When asked, "Did you have a natural birth (spontaneous vaginal delivery)?" she said, "Yes! This time I had a difficult labor, so I might share the natural birth story later," drawing attention.
When asked about prenatal education tips, she expressed affection for Jeon Seonwook, saying, "I think the biggest thing was my husband making me feel comfortable! I was grateful throughout the pregnancy. I ate delicious food to my heart's content." Regarding full-term management she lamented, "I also failed at managing it... I gained 30kg by the last day," adding, "With the first I gained 25kg and lost it all in three months, with the second I gained 30kg and now, 10 days postpartum, I've lost 11kg. Drinking things that reduce swelling and breastfeeding seem like the fastest ways," she complained.
In response to the question "Are you thinking about a third child?" she revealed hesitation about a third, saying, "While giving birth to the second I screamed and it was painful... after giving birth the pain is forgotten and the baby is so cute that I think about a third! But three sons would be tough for me, so I think we'll stop at two..."
Explaining why she decided on a second child after quite some time since the first, she said, "I felt I should have a child before my ideal time for childbirth passed! Actually both my husband and I are career-driven, so that delayed things."
Yaongi, who revealed the second was also a natural pregnancy, said, "I learned the news a bit late so I knew nothing and was practicing golf after work and things like that," adding, "The first was an induced delivery, the second was also spontaneous! I'm a strong supporter of spontaneous delivery so I didn't consider surgery," and disclosed the birth circumstances, "This time I had a risk of preterm labor so I rested a lot. It was a 37-week birth! I was walking around a shopping center with friends when labor suddenly started and I gave birth."
To the question, "Why didn't you announce the news and instead announced it after the birth?" she explained the reason for secretly giving birth, saying, "I wanted to devote myself to prenatal education! I wanted to avoid negative influences and think only good thoughts. It is my role to give birth safely."
Reflecting on becoming a mother of two, she conveyed tenderness, saying, "I had my first at a very young age and was struggling to raise them alone, so it feels like we've grown up together. After raising one child like that, meeting the second again is simply endlessly adorable. Only after having children did I finally understand what responsibility is, and my life feels full. I'm truly grateful they came to me."
Meanwhile, Yaongi debuted and received much love through the webtoon "True Beauty," which concluded in 2023. In 2021 she revealed she was divorced and raising a son from her former husband; in 2022 she married webtoon artist Jeon Seonwook, who serialized works including "Freedraw." Notably, Yaongi, who temporarily paused the serialization of her new work from December last year, surprised fans by belatedly announcing the birth of her second child on the 27th. She gave birth on the 18th, and the second child's sex was also revealed to be male.
