Actor Lee Sang-bo left for the side of his beloved sister and parents. He struggled with depression and panic disorder amid consecutive family bereavements, and although he endured and received much support, his death prompted widespread sorrow.
Born in 1981, Lee Sang-bo debuted in 2006 on KBS2's Transparent Man Choi Jang-soo. After debuting, he used the stage name Lee Bo-hyun for a while before resuming activities under his real name Lee Sang-bo in 2016. He appeared in dramas drama Myeoneuri jeonseongsi dae, Romance Hunter, Rugal, Private Lives, Miss Montecristo, Elegant Empire and films Mephisto and Secretly, Greatly.
What made Lee Sang-bo the center of attention was being embroiled in a drug accusation. In September 2022, he was urgently detained on suspicion of drug use after being reported for walking as if intoxicated, but it was not true.
Lee Sang-bo did not take drugs; after losing his sister and parents one after another, he suffered severe depression and panic disorder and on a holiday consumed his prescribed antidepressants and sedatives together with alcohol, leading to the incident. The National Forensic Service's detailed analysis found no drug components, and he was ultimately cleared of charges.
After the drug accusation, Lee Sang-bo successfully returned through Elegant Empire and said, "I will prepare my acting so much that it overturns that incident and show it to people. So that that episode can be forgotten. Two strong ambitions arose: a sense of responsibility as an actor and to have it naturally buried because it is my profession," conveying his firm resolve and receiving much support.
Afterward, Lee Sang-bo signed an exclusive contract with Korea Management Group, which represents Ahn Jae-mo and Lee Soo-kyung, and worked tirelessly to keep his promises. But on the 27th, his sudden death announcement left those who cheered him feeling heavy-hearted.
Especially since Lee Sang-bo had overcome the difficult period of consecutive bereavements of his sister and parents and returned to daily life, the sense of regret is all the deeper. Lee Sang-bo also deleted all posts on his social accounts as if trying to erase his traces.
Meanwhile, Lee Sang-bo's funeral was set up in Room 3 of Pyeongtaek Central Funeral Hall in Gyeonggi Province.
