Actor Choi Hyun-wook is showcasing new charms, conquering the variety show 'After-school Teacher Taeri' following his drama work.
Choi Hyun-wook appears on tvN's 'After-school Teacher Taeri' (directed by Park Ji-ye and Hwang Seul-woo) as the youngest cast member and is active as the theater club's 'Teacher Gamja.'
'After-school Teacher Taeri' is a new reality variety show that follows the cast opening an after-school theater club at an elementary school in a small village with 18 students and taking on the challenge of teaching the i-dle as teachers.
Choi Hyun-wook, who has proven his solid acting through numerous works across various genres, chose 'After-school Teacher Taeri' as his first regular variety show. Choi Hyun-wook brightens the program's atmosphere with sincere and friendly energy that contrasts with the intense characters he plays in works, drawing viewers with a different charm. As episodes progress, his honest, unpretentious reactions and the witty sensibility that appears in moments are also winning favor with viewers.
On the broadcast on the 22nd, while eating jjajangmyeon with the theater club children, when Ha-yun asked, "Why am I the only left-handed person here?" Choi Hyun-wook warmed the atmosphere by boosting the child's self-esteem, saying, "It's something special. I've wanted to be left-handed since I was young," and switching to eat with his left hand. He also captured attention with his human charm by warmly approaching elders at the barbershop and laughing heartily even in awkward situations such as washing hair with rubber gloves and rough hands.
When an elder he happened to meet in the village told Choi Hyun-wook, "You look like an actor," his bright reply, "Am I handsome?" and his delight further added to the cheerful atmosphere while highlighting his unpretentious charm.
Also, while making kimbap for the children, he said, "This may be a random thought, but would this be what it feels like to have a child?" and he showed a sincere side of himself by empathizing with a child upset about being assigned an unwanted role in the play and shedding tears.
On the 24th, Choi Hyun-wook ranked sixth in the TV-OTT integrated non-drama performer topicality category for the third week of March, released by Good Data Corporation FUNdex, with tvN's 'After-school Teacher Taeri,' proving both topicality and presence even in his first regular variety program.
Meanwhile, Choi Hyun-wook is counted among actors who quickly built representative works by appearing in Twenty Five Twenty One (2022), Weak Hero Class 1 (2022), D.P. season 2 (2023), Twinkling Watermelon (2023), High Cookie (2023), My Dearest Nemesis (2025), and Weak Hero Class 2 (2025). Even at a young age, Choi Hyun-wook has already solidified his position as an actor with a knack for portraying seasoned characters, and expectations grow for how he will grow through 'After-school Teacher Taeri.' His next works, the Netflix series Notes from the Last Row and the Disney+ Portraits of Delusion, are scheduled for release.
