The film The King's Warden surpassed 15 million viewers, reshuffling the all-time box office rankings.
On the 26th, according to the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) integrated box office ticketing network, The King's Warden (director Jang Hang-jun, distributor/showing provider SHOWBOX, produced by Onda Works·BA Entertainment, abbreviated "The King's Warden") drew 110,073 viewers on the 25th alone and held the No. 1 spot at the box office. The cumulative audience reached 15,031,648.
With this, The King's Warden reached the 15 million viewer mark 50 days after release and climbed to third place in all-time box office rankings. It successively surpassed the previous third-place films 'Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds' (14,410,000) and Ode to My Father (14,250,000).
Its pace at the box office is also overwhelming. It reached 1 million viewers in five days after release, 2 million on the 12th day, and 10 million on the 31st day, and continued steady audience draws into the seventh week, achieving a long-running hit.
In particular, given its current momentum, there is speculation that it could challenge the all-time second-place record held by Extreme Job (16,260,000).
The King's Warden is set in Cheongnyeongpo in 1457 and tells the story of a village chief who volunteered for exile to revive his village and a young deposed former king. The narrative of Danjong (Park Jihoon) who lost the throne at a young age and Um Heung-do (Yoo Hai Jin) who stood by him until the end leaves a deep impression and has earned praise from audiences.<
