British singer-songwriter FKA twigs (38) has filed a new lawsuit against her ex-boyfriend, Hollywood actor Shia LaBeouf (39), sparking expected repercussions. The core of this lawsuit is not monetary compensation but "justice and the law".
On the 25th (local time), according to major foreign media including People, FKA twigs recently filed a complaint in the Superior Court of California in Los Angeles alleging that Shia LaBeouf violated California state law by using an NDA (non-disclosure agreement) to silence her.
Twigs's lawyer Matthew Rosengart wrote in the complaint, "This case is about justice and the law, not money," and said, "I stepped forward to right a wrong on behalf of other women who do not have the resources to protect themselves."
The origin of the case dates back to 2020. At that time, twigs sued LaBeouf for sexual assault, battery and emotional abuse, and the matter was resolved by a settlement in 2025. However, afterwards LaBeouf's side began to pressure her, claiming that twigs's comment in a 2025 interview with a media outlet that she "did not feel safe" violated the NDA written at the time of the settlement.
In response, twigs's side mounted a counterattack citing California's STAND law (Stand Together Against Non-Disclosure Act). The law restricts nondisclosure provisions that silence survivors in cases of sexual misconduct. When LaBeouf's side presented the absurd logic that "the law applies only to rape and not to sexual assault," twigs's side dismissed it as "a ridiculous claim that contradicts common sense and the law."
Currently, Shia LaBeouf is mired in continuous controversy, including an arrest in February on assault charges during a Mardi Gras festival in New Orleans. He is reportedly out on bail on the condition of drug treatment and drug testing.
Twigs has asked the court to declare that the NDA provision is invalid through this lawsuit. She raised her voice, saying, "Survivors of sexual misconduct should no longer be harassed or forced into silence."
