Singer Hong Seo-beom and his wife, Cho Gap-kyung, have faced an unexpected public backlash over their son's private life controversy. As a beloved couple in the entertainment industry, damage to their image is inevitable.
Recently, their eldest son, Mr. A, became embroiled in allegations of an affair and failure to pay child support in relation to his ex-wife, Ms. B. The allegations were revealed on the 23rd on the YouTube channel Garosero Research Institute.
According to Ms. B's claims, the two went on a honeymoon after marrying in 2024 and later learned of the pregnancy. However, she said she discovered indications of Mr. A's affair during that period. She claimed to have confirmed the circumstances through the car's black box.
The conflict later escalated into a divorce lawsuit, and the court last September partly recognized Mr. A's responsibility, reportedly ordering him to pay 30 million won in compensation and 800,000 won per month in child support. However, she said that the compensation and child support have not been paid to date. In response, Hong Seo-beom expressed regret on the same channel on the 24th, calling the other party's claims one-sided. He also said that because his son and daughter-in-law are adults, it was difficult for him to intervene directly and that he hopes the matter will be resolved amicably.
Even so, this controversy is inevitably damaging to the image of the two, known as a representative "beloved couple" of the entertainment industry. It is especially shocking because they have shown a harmonious family on various variety shows. However, some argue that extending criticism to the parents is excessive since this is a private matter of an adult child.
