ENA's Monday-Tuesday drama "Climax" (writers: Lee Ji-won, Shin Ye-seul | director: Lee Ji-won | starring: Ju Jihoon, Ha Jiwon, Nana, Oh Jung-se, and Cha Joo-young | planned by: KT Studio Genie | produced by: HYBE Media Corp., SLL) ranked No. 1 among Monday-Tuesday dramas in the 20-49 target rating and continued its upward trend, while also proving its buzz by ranking No. 1 domestically on the global OTT platform Disney+ for eight consecutive days.
"Climax" is a fierce survival drama about prosecutor Bang Tae-seop, who plunged into a cartel of power to stand at the top of Korea, and those around him. As of Wednesday the 25th, it ranked No. 1 domestically on the global OTT platform Disney+ for eight consecutive days. Also, on Tuesday, March 24, it set a personal best with a 1.3% rating in the 20-49 target, ranking No. 1 among Monday-Tuesday dramas in the 20-49 target rating and capturing its target audience. The highest minute rating per minute for Seoul metropolitan households also surpassed 4.2%, proving high immersion (provided by Nielsen Korea).
Also, "Climax" topped FUNdex's TV-OTT drama and TV drama topicality rankings, followed by No. 1 on Naver OpenTalk ranking and No. 2 on Naver Entertainment's "most searched dramas now." In addition, it swept No. 1 in the Korean series category on WatchaPedia and No. 2 on the content ranking platform KinoLike's "weekly trend ranking," proving its buzz.
"Climax" 's rapid, storm-like development and the actors' densely concentrated performances are major viewing points. Comments such as "I really like Ha Jiwon's dry, crisp style," "Cha Joo-young handled the line tone uniquely and her diction is perfect," and "Ju Jihoon exudes decadent charm" have continued praise for the actors' performances and overall visuals, and unpredictable, shocking developments such as the female lead's same-sex storyline stimulate dopamine.
Attention has also turned to the production team of "Climax."
Production was handled by HYBE Media Corp., which has presented well-made works that balance artistic merit and commercial success such as the films 12.12: The Day, Inside Men, YADANG: The Snitch, Escape from Evil (original title: Daman Akeseo Guhasoseo), The Opposition (original title: Yadang), and the Disney+ original series Made In Korea. It is also director Lee Ji-won's first drama directorial work; Lee won numerous rookie director awards including at the Baeksang Arts Awards for the film Miss Baek.
Director Lee Ji-won said at the production briefing, "After Miss Baek was released in 2018 I made one more film that couldn't be released, and 'Climax' is coming to viewers first, so I feel new emotions. I feel like I might throw up a little. Rather than feeling nervous, I am excited and looking forward to how people will receive a work we made with all our effort and sweat and tears." She added, "This is a work made with the passion and sincerity that these actors and I poured into it. We worked intensely and had to do it. It is not an exaggeration to say I put everything I had into it. I am confident it will be entertaining."
